    Needing arrow help!

    Ok folks, I'm new to trad thanks to Deb and Arvin! I have some questions on arrow types. This is what I've found on Easton site regarding selections of arrows, but I want real time , real life advice.
    All of these are XX75
    2413= light and fast
    2314, 2315= medium weight
    2216= heavy weight

    Which one would you chose and why?

    I'm leaning more towards the 2216 cuz my bow is 45#@28 in. This is my first bow and I think might I might need a 60+# bow. The 45 is alot easier to draw than I was thinking. Can this 45# really kill a deer? Man, those arrows seem to move so slow! I used to my Monster throwing 510 gr arrows at 308 fps (107#ke).

    Thanks in advance!

    a 45# bow will kill a deer just as easily as your monster... the arrow is traveling about half as fast but a sharp broadhead in the right place makes all the difference in the world.

      I kill LOTS of animals with my 50# bows(look at my avatar). Yes, 45# can and will kill lots of critters. The problem I see is that a 2216 shaft is going to be WAY too stiff for a 45# bow. If you want to shoot aluminum you will probably need around a 1916. I am not sure it would be possible to get enough weight on the front end of a 2216 to make it work from a 45# bow.

      Also, arrow charts are just starting points and rarely can you pick a shaft right off the chart and have it be right with trad bows.

      I also notice that you are in FW. If so, you need to look up huntinpool (Todd Pool) or meangene (Gene Bohannon). Both of these guys are very active with Cowtown Bowmen in FW and can provide a wealth of knowledge and shorten the learning curve for you.

        Leon, this is the hardest part. You are in the FW area. Cowtown has some of the most experienced knowledgeable people in the Texas trad world. Go check out the Cowtown club and talk to Todd Pool and Gene Bohannon. Or come on to here to the house. We happen to have a matched set (Longbow and Recurve) of custom Sarrels that you can shoot. 55 & 58#.

          The first 2 numbers are the Diameter of the arrow in 64ths and the 2nd 2 numbers are the wall thickness in 1000ths (2216= 22/64 ths and 16/1000 ths thick) . I shoot a 2312 and 2412 out of a #50 bow and it takes a 30" -31" arrow with 175 -250 tip to get them tuned. You can tune any arrow to any bow if you add enough weight to the front. That is not feasable in many cases so you want to get close to begin with. All of the arrows listed are going to weigh around 10 gpi but the spine rating is a much bigger gap. This will explain it better. http://bowmaker.net/index2.htm Yopu can give me a call and if you need , I have a bunch of different arrows and lots of different point weights. We could shoot a few and see what would get you closest so you don't waste money on something that won't shoot well. BTW , my 1st trad kill was with a #45 Sarrels recurve at 18 yds.

                    I'm shooting 622g arrows out of my 46# longbow and have not problems when I put the arrow where it needs to go. The biggest key to shooting traditional is practice and then more practice and when you start getting good even more practice. In other words try to practice at least 3 or 4 days a week. Weather and life can make that tough sometimes but hit the range as much as you can.

                        Ok, I ended up with Easton Legacy 2016 cut at 29.5 inch with 5 in feathers. I got a pack of 125 and 140 grain fieldtips. I set my nocking point at .5 high. I'll report back tomorrow with the results. How's that sound so far?

                          BTW, the arrow says "50-55# longbow" Hope that don't make a difference!
