So I was lucky enough to get a Sarrels Teton longbow. 56# @ 28. A little heavier than I had been advised but figured my bowfishing rig I shoot instintive with no let off at 55# so I should be good. Anyway I quickly discovered that my training wheel arrows are I presume way under spined. What spine would some of you pros suggest for 56#. I eventually wantto get some Rubydog arras but figure I can start off with some cheapy carbons until I quit missing as often. Anyway thanks in advance and look forward to being able to join in the FSC deal.

Congrats on the Sarrels. I can help with some stuff but not arrows. Lot of arrow experts around, tho, just be patient, the trad page moves a lot slower than the campfire.

.500 carbons or 2016 alum, is where I would start. Experiment with different point weights.

I have noticed that thanks Deb(that the trad section moves slower). I am sure I will have plenty of questions in the weeks to come. Mr Wayne Muir gave me some pointers before at CCBA and I have since employed them bowfishing. So we will see how much I have learned once I get some arrows for this bow. Last year I shot maybe 10 different 3d shoots. A few ASA but mostly club shoots. This year my objective is to only shoot 3d with trad gear. Esp since I sold my target rig.
Brutekiller I tried my 400s with 100gr field tips and I could watch them flex on the way to target. Or at least it seemed that way. Started out good and quickly veered right and down.

Thanks for the welcome trad "doc" hope to be joining the FSC group fairly soon, even if I am nothing but a confiedence booster for the rest of you guys. I want to get this thing figured out right now. I feel like a kid that just got a new toy at Christmas but not the batteries I need to play with it. Maybe at one point I can shed all of my training wheels.

If you feel that bow is a little heavy for you I bet Bob can trap the limbs and chase some weight off of it for you. Best of luck..

Terry I think it is pretty good. Somebody suggested I start at 45 or so, which probably is a great idea, but it seemed fine the 10 or so arrows I shopt today. It is pretty close my bow fishing rig and I am comfortable shooting that with fingers and no let off. Has your brother shot that .264 yet?

the FSC shots are not only confidence boosters but great practice as well. depending on your draw length you might need to drop down to the 400 spine range. my 50# Pse impala likes a gt 5575 (400 spine) w/ just over 200gr up front. bob makes a great bow, you'll be very happy with it.

3p12, your compound arrows are more than likely too stiff unless you were only shooting a 50# compound. I shoot .400 spine arrows from my 50# bows with a lot of front end weight. I do this to get the total arrow weight up enough to hunt with. You need to put up a little more info such as your real draw length with that bow to get you close. The bow might say 56#@28" but if you are only drawing 26-27 or 29-30 then you are not pulling 56#. You would be pulling 3-5# less or more than the 56# marked on the bow. That will also make a difference in which arrows to reccommend.

I shoot 29 with with a release on my compound and feel like I am just a little shorter than that with this bow. Is there much of a difference in the two? Tomorrow I am going to try and track down some heavier FT and start there. For some reason I thought I remembered somebody telling me they shot a stiffer arrow for thier trad bow with less dw. That never did make any sense to me.

It could make sense if they were shooting close to the same draw weights in both the compound and their stick. If you want to add to your total arrow weight, the best place to do it is at the front (using heavy brass inserts and heavy field points/broadheads). To make the added front end weight work you need to start with a stiffer arrow because the extra front end weight will weaken the shaft.

If you have a shop nearby it would be a good idea to have your draw length measured. It makes all the other decisions about where to start with your arrows a little easier.

Mvkinney is close to DFW is it not? If so look up Tood Pool (huntinpool on TBH) or Gene Bohannan(meangene on TBH). They are both very active in Cowtown Bowmen Archery club in FW. Here is their web site: http://www.cowtownbowmen.net/ They can get you started in the right direction with a few less headaches.

Also Denton County Archery club is an traditional club and I'm sure there are some guys up there that can help you out too. Here is their web site: http://www.dentoncountyarchers.com/
