    bareshaft tuning

got my predator recurve on monday. first i have to say that this bow is simply awesome. it is 54 at my draw but it feels like 45 lbs and shoots the heavy arrows like 60 lbs... and this thing is without silencer quieter than my martin dreamcatcher with silencers on. simply awesome!!

now im trying to setup my arrows with the bareshaft test. i have 300 spine easton axis fmj. i tried them with the normal hit insert and 180 grs fieldpoints at full lenght and the bareshaft was in the group out to 20 yards...

then i installed the heavy 50 grs brass insert and shot again, i was thinking that this will be way too weak but the bareshaft was in the group again...

i shot from different distances and everytime the same...

normally the bareshaft should sit right if it is too weak and left if it is too stiff!?!?

is it possible that some bows have a big spine tolerance?

with my other bows i got good results with bareshaft tuning but not with the predator!

are there other ways to finde the correct arrow?

    thanks
    daniel

I would think a 300 spine would be way too stiff to start with. My hunting buddy shoots a Mathews Z7 at 70# and only shoots 340's and they fly like darts.
I shoot a 52# Horne LB and a 47# Black Widow recurve and both of them shoot well with Beman ICS 500's full length with 100 or 125 gr. points.
I hunt with 2117 aluminum arrows cut 29.5" and 260 grs. up front.

You need to shoot equal amount of bareshafts as fletched arrows. then compare groups.

Same problem here for last 2weekends. Originally was left so added weight to 145 but still tad to the left now. Heavier points was to the right but now grouping w/ the 145's. I just got the GT weights so just need a free day to get it right. Also ordered a scale so will help also

I shoot between 55 and 60 pounds on all my bows (some recurves and some longbows) and shoot a 500 spine with 100 grain brass inserts and 200 gr broadheads at 29 1/2" inches long. With the 300 you could have a way to stiff of arrow. Closer to center shot spine has a lesser effect.

It's not where the bare shaft strikes, it's the orientation of the arrow upon impact. Unless I am WAY outta whack, my bare shafts will land with my fletched groups. What I am looking for is the nock position upon impact. I want the nock to be straight in line with me and a little high. If it's to the right, it's too stiff, left too weak. Low, raise your nock point.

I just read the link that Todd posted above. It is a good read for anyone trying to tune a stickbow. I feel like I have great arrow flight already, but it certainly won't hurt to see if I can make it better. I am going to give this a try.
