After 4 yrs It finally happened. This season started off as one of the worst. Work and family kept me out of the woods and when I did go something always went wrong usually ending with hours and not even seeing a deer. This afternoon I am leaving for the holidays so I went hunting this morning. The moon was so bright that on the way to the stand I didn't need a light even in the woods. It was 68 degrees and I had a cold and could barely hear my foot steps. Before I even got into the stand I had already gave up. Just at first light I heard a deer right when he was in the shooting lane, remeber I am almost deaf with this cold. He walked away giving me no shot. He disapeared in some brush and I looked and looked for him coming out the other side. Well remeber I am almost deaf. The deer appeared at 10 yards off my weak side, luckily he turned and walked quatering away from me giving me a shot. With out knowing I drew and released, I horror I say that I had Spined him. He layed on the ground and I nocked another arrow and put this one through both lungs. The really cool part was that I was using some spurce arrows that a LW had taught me how to make 4 yrs ago. He is only a spike but I couldn't be prouder. No pick except for on my phone (wife left the nikon out in the rain). Thanks for listening, Oh yeah I got him 200 yards from my house, sometimes its great to be a farmer.

Man that is an awesome hunt, and you got him. Mine was a spike as well, and hunted hard with no regrets of the days that I didn't come home with one. Remember, we hunt traditional because of the experience of the woods, quiet and reflection. When it happens, it happens, and what a RUSH it is when it does.
