    Fletching ?

Getting ready to re-fletch some arrows and wondered how far from the nock do you all put the back of the feather, just enough for your fingers to clear? Also using 5" shield cut feathers, I think they might be a little noiser, your thoughts? What length feathers do most of you all use?

I normally fletch about 1" below the nock. Shields are a bit more noisy than parabolic but they are more "traditional". If you want to shoot as quiet as possible, fletch 4x4" parabolic feathers @ 90 Degrees and you will have stealthy arrows. The 4 x 4" give you as much surface area as 3 x 5" for stability buth they are typically less noisy. If you need more stability, use 3 x 5 1/2" shields or parabolic.

    Hope this helps.

I fletch mine so the tip of my nose touches the back of the feather. If I ain't at full draw then it don't touch. Just another point of contact. If your bow is tuned you shouldn't need the long of a feather. I hunt with 4" and target shoot with 3-4"

4x4 works better for me than 3x5.
