    Centaur Longbow

Anyone have any experience with the bows from Centaur Archery? I did some looking over on tradgang and didn't find any negative comments about them. I'm going to be in the market for a new longbow after season is over and I have been thinking about getting a Centaur or a MOAB, or one of Bob's bows. What everyone's thoughts.

I have not shot a Centaur but have a MOAB. I have also shot every model bow Bob makes. I would recommend to Sarrels Blueridge takedown longbow because that is my favorite bow. But I would say to you, try all three and see which YOU like the best. That is going to be the best one for you.

I think you should also consider a Pronghorn bow. Herb's bows have quite a following around the country. When one comes up for sale on Tradgang, they never last for very long. Most of my hunting buddies have all shot sticks for over thirty years. They have all gone to or want to go to Pronghorns, they are just that good.

That said, I shot one of Bob's new Puma take down long bows recently and it had the same feel and quick come to target ability of my Pronghorn. It had no vibration and shot quiet with me shooting three under, something most bows do not do for me. Just my opinion and I hope it helps with your decision.

I did for a while till he started coming upo with a rash of new models. I love that Blueridge so much I can't see shelling out more bucks right now for somthing I know is not going to be shot much.

As Draco said above, the new Puma recurve (the Puma is a recurve and not a longbow) is, I think, Bob's best recurve design yet.

I've shot a few Centaurs. They are fast but had a little hand shock. (nothing to bad) I shot only the carbon models tough. I know one guy that had the limb tip give away and the string split the limb for about 4" . He had also taken a fall the week before and nocked the string off when he fell. He very easily could have damaged it then. I have looked seriously at them for a while, seems like they don't have many over 60" out there.

I had one of Bob's Sierra Longbows for a few months it was too light for me so I traded it off for a Bob Lee recurve. The Sierra was very smooth, light in the hand, and dead quite. I should probably give that Bluridge a try. I really like the idea of a take down longbow.

Can you get the Blueridge with a set of longbow limbs and recurve limbs?

Earlier in the year I was looking into Centaur’s pretty hard. I believe I may have posted a thread on here. From a design standpoint, I really like the bow over other longbows on the market. I have never shot one and though he offers a free look option, he didn’t have any bows in stock at the time.

I couldn’t find a used one with the specs I wanted and the bowyer said that he was 12 months out on new orders. As a general rule I double the wait time quoted by custom bowyers and I didn’t want to wait two years (my assumption) for a bow. If you are interested, keep an eye on his website as he does post used bows on his site from time to time.

I ended up visiting Bob in late June and ordered a bow from him.

Meateater - you can get a Blueridge with both longbow and recurve limbs - he calls the recurve version the Ridgecatt.

As per the other post, just got a blueridge the other day and love it. Have shot the Centaurs at a local shop a couple times, and they are very nice bows, but the grip wasn't right for me - there's a fair amount of palm swell in most of the ones I have held.

My remaining list includes a pronghorn 3 piece takedown longbow and a Rampart - VERY similar design to a pronghorn, but a little more R/D unstrung. 3 are very similar model bows, but I've found I shoot that straight gripped, 3 piece design well. www.rmsgear.com carries the Ramparts, they currently have a boo limbed charcoal dymonwood longbow on the shelf right now that would have gone home with me if the sarrels hadn't been on the way.

                    Don't overlook Ron Foley's 3-pc longbow...I love mine.

As others have said, shoot a bunch of 'em and find what fits YOU best.
