    Bowsocks

I keep my bows stored in bowsocks, so I unstring them and place them in the bowsock for storage on the upper bunk of the bunk beds in our computer room. If I'm on an out of state hunt, it will remain strung until the hunt is over, depending upon state laws.

Very seldom are any of my recurves unstrung. Most damage occurs during stringing (improperly). Longbows always unstrung after shooting. My Sarrels has been strung for over a year now.

I am glad I searched this. I was going to string and unstring it after every use. Not now.

I usually unstring mine, but during a hunting trip, or during hunting season the one I am using may stay strung for long periods of time.

The older and wiser folks will tell you - you can leave a recurve strung, but always unstring a longbow.

My recurve only gets unstrung if I have to take it down or it needs adjusting. Rob Lee recommends this cause Most damage to bows are done while stringing and unstringing.

I bought a Blackhills bow back in August. Haven't unstrung it yet.

Curious, why should the longbows be unstrung while it's OK to leave the recurves strung? I understand self-bows should always be unstrung, but I thought modern longbows were made of the same material as modern recurves. Or is it something in the design difference between longbow and recurve that requires longbows to be unstrung, even if made of the same modern materials?

My go to longbow has been strung since 2003 when I built it. Only unstring it to change strings or if I have to leave it in a hot truck.

I think it was when LB's were the D-style they would lose some weight when left strung. With the R/D LB's it is probably less critical.
