LostHawg, are you makeing regular strings or trying to make a flimish twist.I do not make the flimish twist to good yet myself. I have watched people do it like it was nothing.I do make a great regular string.
And what type jig do you have.

When I started I had my Sister inlaw show me how. She can make one so fast it will amaze you, but she has made over a 1000 strings over the years. Then I bought a package deal from Apple, it came with a good video. With quite a few strings under my belt now.I feel comfortable jumping right on one and they all turn out perfect. I make sure I do every thing just right.I allso make strings for compounds and I don't want to have any problems with a string on something that stores the energy of a compound bow.

I use 450-450+ 450X allso a new material that I can't remember the name of ,off the top of my head. But for all my Recurve or Longbows I make nothing but B-50 strings..

Let me know if I can help in any way.

My buddy over in Georgia has built them for me of FastFlight in the past and recently of DynaFlight 97. I got one of 8125 from "Great Strings" that looks like a good string.

I built a (Flemish) jig from plans posted on Tradgang with a few personal modifications.

Lost: Never had that problem. Flent and I have made ours for years and have never had a problem. I can't figure what the problem was with yours. You may have got the center section hot with all that fast shooting you do. (LoL) Come up here and we will show you how to make the string. It is easy when someone shows you how it is done.

Tracy, I’ve had problems in the past with them braking at the nock points, and found that if you put the nock set on and press it on to tight you will cut the strands and you not even know it. So I started tying my nock set on using string (old dacron strings worked good for that) and the problem stopped, I could get 2 or 3 years out of a string back when I shot 3D and shot every day, I also cut the factory serving off when I got the string and replaced it with 20lb fishing line. The serving would outlast the life of the bowstring.

Thanks guys. Kavin, you may have something there. About 6 months ago I replaced a brass nock clip with floss. There may have been damage not evident that just needed some shooting to bring on failure. I started shooting the bow steady back in June or July to get tuned in for bow season. Also, it could have been damaged by bowfishing with a too tight nock.

Either way, the string failed. I've been using Mercurys a lot lately and I like how snug they can fit without being tight or pinching like the Bohning classics can.

Right now, I'm still waiting on a replacement string, so my longbow has my attention again. Funny how easy and accurate I can shoot my longbow even though I'd not been practicing with it. Just fell right back into the groove with it.

I'm babbling. Thanks for the ideas guys.

Mr. Woolley my friend, I appreciate your vote of confidence, but I'm just not too fast of a shooter.

                Dang you Tracy,

One more thing to worry about, I have some that are years old. I have only had one break...thank goodness. Once a year for mortals, Bi-monthly for Buff. Perhaps he can order them in bulk from that little company he likes.

Hey guys, it's always a good idea to have two strings on hand all the time and alternate using them. That way they both get stretched the same and should be nocked the same. Then, if you have a problem with one string you always have a backup ready to go. Tracy, save your old string and use a single strand to make a nock on your new string. It seems like it would slip, but they don't and sure don't tear up your string like clamp on ones do. I'm glad you didn't get hurt when your string let loose!

No, Greg's using Fastflight and D97 right now.

Cheryl, I like to use old B50. Even more than floss. The brass clip was what came with the string when I got the bow. Y'all planning a hunt with the Youngs again? Seems Bonnie said something about you hunting together occassionally I think.

Mark, all along I've been watching the loops and string in general. Never even thought about the nocking point. But, now that it's happened, it actually makes sense when you think about it.

                          Thanks for ALL the tips.

They locked me out of TBH at work. Go figure. lol Anyway, you'll see me posting less now. I'm not locked down to my PC here at home like I am there. Bear with me if I don't answer you right away.

I just started in the traditional scene and now I have something else to wonder about. This really is some important information to get out.
