x3for Doug McCoy and strings. Bob Sarrels makes a good string too, but I think that Doug is closer to you.
I've gone the "cheap" route ordering wooden arrows off of ebay, but no more. I've procured some good old broadheads this way, but I'd recommend buying quality arrows from a local shop that knows trad. Let them set you up. You'll have a better start. I'd recommend carbon for starters for durability, plus you don't have to worry about keeping them straight. If you were in Austin I'd recommend that you contact Bob Sarrels. For woods, I'd recommend Ruby Dog here on TBH. He doesn't know it, but I'll be contacting him pretty soon for some woods. I've shot some of his arrows and they are just great!

I'm new here and don't know everybody, but I'm sure the aforementioned Ol Man probably makes a great string and supporting the site members is always a cool thing to do, right? I've used 18 strand 3-bundle flemish twist fast flite strings from Kustom King for years and have been completely satisfied. But they don't have a corner on making those types of strings by any means, and Three Rivers is also a good source, as is Bob Lee Archery. I intend to try Ol Man's stuff next time I need to purchase a string though to support a site member like I said. Arrows? Most bang for the buck still seems to be aluminum. Easton Legacy's are great and what I use most of the time. Easton Gamegetters are even cheaper still, but quality is every bit as good as the Legacys. I reccomend them primarily for the cost factor, and the consistency. You can better afford to experiment around with various spines until you get it right. Also easier and cheaper to alter point setups for FOC, and weight etctera. Then after you know for sure what deflection/spine your set up shoots best, THEN invest in those nice premium woodies or carbons that match your prime spine deflection spec. Also when your first shooting trad gear (re instinctive) you may save a bit of $ due to the number of messed up arrows as you get past the early stages of the learning curve. Busting up a bunch of nice woodies can take the fun out of practice really quick! Aluminums are my everyday "blue jeans" working, practicin', huntin' arrows, and woodies are my special dress up - Sunday go to meetin', 3-D arrahs...yep...I'm really itchin' to try some carbon Gold tips soon though...food for thought, hope it's helpful friend.
Oh yeah...make sure your bow's fast flite rated/approved by the manufacturer, or stick to a dacron string!
BTW...is a Phlegmish Twist string one where ya spit on it, then twist it up??? And do they come in colors other than green or yellow
...
