    Dumb question

What causes the hair rest to wear out faster on one bow than the same material does on another? I have replaced the hair twice on one longbow and 3 times on a recurve and the third bow(BlackHills II) has never shown any wear sign.
Could this be a tuning issue or is it normal? I don't recall having to do this way back when in the 70's.
The arras are all the same woods I shoot out of all my bows yet I don't see any abnormal wear on the fletches.

Sounds to me like the nocking point is too low.. Arrow may be dipping causing excessive wear. If it is on the side plate as well then spine is to stiff.

I knew you would come thru
Side plates are all good. It must be string stretch as my brace heights were all too low. That would account for the nocking point being low, correct?
BTW, Bob noticed the low brace hgt on the BlackHills bow last weekend although it has no wear on the rest---------yet.
And all that time I just thought the bow was faster and flatter shootin since it was hittin high.

Funny thing was that even with a 6.5" brace hgt, the arrow flight looked fine with no wobble and consistent grouping. I musta just gradually gotten used to it and compensated somehow.

Can anyone solve my arrow problem? My carbons are to stiff, I wear out rugs and strike plates at an amazing rate. If we leave them longer so that they are correctly spined, they are to heavy and drop like a stone. We can't match weight and spine. With woods it is even worse. I don't think I have ever shot with matched tackle in my life.

Get some Goldtip Ultra Light Entrada .600 They willl be light enought to get you some speed . I've been shooting 6.0-6.8 grains per pound on a Superstition since Jan. and it is shooting just fine. Here is link to Gold Tip sight. http://www.goldtip.com/entrada.htm They are around $70 a dozen for shafts. If you order from here (http://www.archeryprostaff.com/GOLDTIP_s/849.htm ) you can use TBH as coupon code at checkout and save 5%

My carbons are Easton Red Line 780s. They weigh 6.3 gpi, finished arrow weighs 280 grns with a 100 gn point. They are 261/4 " long. They do not make this arrow anymore and my supply is limited. They fly sideways into the 10 hole. I shoot a 45lb bow and I have a 201/2" draw. My woods are 1/4" dowels from home depot. Arvin said have fun and good luck.

The goldtips will weigh 5.7 gpi. The same rigged arrow would be 265gr plus feathers. If you would shoot a little longer shaft and 75 gr tips you could probably get them to fly staight. When you come to the Recurve shoot I will bring some and a saw and we will see what we can make work . I have a few at full length to play with.

Thanks, Todd, we are looking at the gold tips now in the Lancaster catolog. It looks like we could leave them a little longer to bring the spine up without adding weight. And they will be fatter, which is great.

Deb... I think the 1535 GT's are going to be far too stiff for you. A good bet would be 1413 or 1416 Easton Aluminums I don't know of any carbons that would shoot well from your bow.

You could try the GT Entrada Ultralights like Todd says - they fly great out of the wifes 32# recurve. Hers are cut to 29" to get them to fly good though with a 85 grain tip.
