    Used #40ish recurve or longbow

Figured I'd post on here. Was shooting with my dad (73) this weekend and letting him play with my recurve. Got his interest piqued, and he mentioned that if I find a deal on a lighter bow, to let him know. Looking for something easy to shoot - probably 60+ in length, and weight between 40 & 43 @ 27-28 inches - He wasn't hitting full draw with my rig - hit the same anchor on his mouth, but his elbow was out at about a 45 degree angle.

Will probably see what bob has if we can ever get our schedules to align (sounds like we're both busy guys). Don't want to put too much into it, he'll probably not shoot all that much, but will be fun to have him shooting with me.

I hope you find one for him and I will start looking around here. I finally got my dad to start shooting a bow when he was 67 yrs. old. I let him use a **** Robertson I had that was 47# at his draw. I taught him to shoot 3 under and he picked it up fast.

I took him out bowhunting for the first time. It was different teaching him and taking him as it had always been the other way around. I had been on the stand about an hour when I see him walking down the hill. I go to him to see what the problem was and he tells me he's shot a doe and bowhunting ain't worth a .... and he ain't doing any more of it. He tells me he shot a doe and she just ran off. I explained about that but he said I didn't understand, that he had shot her right through the heart and she ran off. I explained again about them running when shot and we would find her. We went to the stand and found blood, a lot of blood, dark red blood and pink foamy blood. We followed the trail around the first bush and there she was. She had gone thirty yards. He was happy but said he really didn't like this thing about the running off. When he pulled the trigger he expected to see the deer go down, or at least look mortally wounded. He never went bowhunting again but kept the bow until he died. Mother said he would shoot for hours out in the yard.

He really enjoyed shooting the bow and I know your dad will too. I wish hard for you to find him a bow.

Draco, thanks for keeping an eye out. I got him shooting a compound about 4 years ago, and he's shot a couple animals in africa with it. Will be fun to shoot a little trad with him. Doubt he'll hunt with it, but he'll have fun shooting it.

On a different note, i know what you mean about rifle guys expecting to see an animal go down right away. I can't tell you the number of times we've had a hunter come in saying 'they missed' only to go back and check to find a dead animal. Seems like some folks don't even check for blood if they don't see the animal fall or stumble.
