    Bow quiver for flatbow/selfbow

    Hi Yall

    I've been shooting some old indian archery flatbows (not laminated, not glass backed). These bows have thick limbs and my Thunderhorn bow quiver (which fits my laminated bows great) is too narrow to fit the thicker selfbow type limbs.
    Any ideas on which bowquiver would work for a AFB / selfbow type?
    I was thinking about an eagle flight quiver or a kanati quiver but I have not handled either of those quivers in person.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Ive looked at some thunderhorns and they have several widths on the slip ons.

      I would think the style you are mentioning would work. I really like the ones that slide on from the side then secure in place with either the rubber type strap or the velcro strap.Shoot an e-mail and let them know what you are needing one for.

        Try the Great Northern strap on quiver. It will work great on almost any bow. I like the versatility of the adjustable quiver. Here is a link:

          I have never heard of someone wanting to put a bow quiver on a selfbow. Most of the guys I know that shoot them, want a back quiver or something a little more primative. That is not to say it is wrong or that you can't do it. Hey whatever makes you happy...good luck with it.

            I use the GN quiver mentioned above on all my bows, including my selfbow. I don't hunt with a quiver and this one is easy on / easy off in the blind. I personally don't like back/side quivers for hunting so that is why i use the bow quiver to get my arrows to and from the stand.

              I have two Thunderhorns, and I love them, but just as you, I had problems getting them to fit where I wanted on the thicker limbed bows, especially on my Blackwidow PMA which has the real thick limb butts.

              On my longbows, and one piece recurves, I want the quiver mounts well inside the fades. On my take down recurves I want the quiver mounts placed solidly against the risers.

              They say pictures are worth 1000 words, so rather than tell you what I did I will show you.

              This may not be something you want to do, but I modified both of my quivers in this fashion, and they will now fit where I want them, on any bow I want to use them on, and they fit very snug, and secure as long as I get the straps pulled tight.

              I am very pleased with the results.

              Hope this helps.

              Rick

                Show me some more pics, Rick. I want to see in more detail how you rigged up those "extra arrow" holders - on both ends of the quiver.

                  hey guys thank you for the advice. Rick - thanks for those pictures they helped immensely. It appears you cut off one of the anchors and let the strap act as the anchor itself which is ingenious. That would definitely allow you to get the quiver off the limbs and onto the riser for less energy sapping. What did you use to cut that hard rubber?

                  I tinkered around with the Thunderhorn last night and I am not yet sure what I'm gonna do. I have always used bow quivers with pistol gripped recurves and loved em. However, when I managed to cram the thunderhorn onto the straight gripped selfbow it throws the balance off in a serious way. I am assuming its b/c of the bows' light mass weight and straight grip. I dunno but I am going to have to seriously re-think the bow quiver idea for this longbow. If anything, I think Ricks' idea will be the one I use. Or I might just stick with the hip quiver. My problem is that I do the majority of my hunt on stalk in thick stuff and the hip quiver sometimes gets hung up . Back quiver is not an option for the same reasons.
                  Thanks to everyone who posted up. I have an extra Thurnderhorn that I might 'Barbee'. I just need to think about it some more. Thanks again

                    Jerry,

                    those first pictures are of a Tred Barta 8 arrow quiver, which is made by Thunderhorn, and comes with the external arrow clips on it. I bought it at 3Rivers.

                    `````````````````````````
                    FnH,
                    I actually just used a sharp knife, and cut away the the side of the limb anchor I wanted to get rid of.
                    Here are pictures of my BOA on the bow, that is modded the same way.
                    Like I said - I love these quivers, and I really love the way they will fit the bow (any bow) I want to use them on now.
                    They are real fast to put on, and take off also.
