    Texas State Longbow Championship INFO

I have been in contact with some of the people at Sherwood. I have been informed that they WILL allow 3-under to shoot this year. The flyers will be mailed on the 15th. (YEEEEEE-HAAAAAA) I don't have to changed grips for a week. Let's make sure that they get their 250 shooters this year and support their decision. THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST SHOOTS IN TEXAS.

Just wondering since they let alot of that through last year if they actually included it in the rules.

Here is a brief description: 2 day event , 50 targets each day. Day 1 assinged targets and shoot 50. Day 2 peered grouped from leaders down based on score. Leaders shoot in same group. One piece lb and wooden arrows. Great terrain with a little bit of everything. Memorial day weekend. It has been limited to first 250 entries in the past. Flyers should be mailed on the 15th. Lots of vendors and good concessions. This is a shoot you don't want to miss

Well, heck! When you said we could shoot 3 under this year I was going to go. But Memorial Day weekend the Hayloft is sure to be booked. I wanted to shoot my self bow in this one.

With "championship" as part of the title, is it OK for beginners to enter and shoot for fun? Or is it only for the best qualified longbow archers?

Also, I tried a google search for "Texas Longbow Championship," but couldn't find anything other than references to past events. Is there a website dedicated to it?

Lastly, where in Ft. Worth is Mary's Creek? While doing a google search for it, it appears to be real close to the Cowtown Bowmen's place. Don't know if it's the same place or not, but I found this really interesting piece of Old West history, the Mary's Creek Raid:

Parker County, Texas Indians Celebrate the Fourth of July in Tarrant and Parker Counties The following story by Kate Nowak was featured in the July 2002, Painted Post Crossroads. I can still remember that Fourth of July the Indians came. The year was 1869 and I was about to turn 12. Of course I thought […]

Anyway, sorry if these are all dumb questions. I'm still new at all this.

I attempted to shoot this one a couple years ago, showed up and it was rained out. I had had a longbow for about a month, so for sure i was a beginner. Clubs can call their shoots anything they like...this club started this shoot years ago, do this ONE shoot all year, called it a "Championship" and it took. They do not have a website, don't apparently want one, so word of mouth has kept it going (and flyers). Cowtown hosted the first annual RECURVE Championship last year...Dusty and others had wished for one, and Todd and crew stepped up to create one; hence, we now have a Recurve Championship. The Austin Archery Club started their Texas Traditional Championship years ago, too...and named it that because they...well, because they could. At that one, you can shoot either a longbow OR a recurve and preferably both.

The longbow shoot groups you in (I think) groups of five men or five women the first day. Depending on your score the first day, they then move you to a group who scored similarly on the second day. Hope this helps!
