How sensitive is a pigs nose?

i just got back from the farm and this was tough hunt. i hunted for 3 straight days and didnt see a single deer. My daughter had 3 deer come to her feeder and she shot a buck with a rifle. But all i saw at my stand was a 175 pound boar. He came in sniffing the ground and was very cautious. I was patient in getting my bow off the hanger, my hood off my face etc and moved very slowly. Since he was upwind, he couldnt smeel me. However, he began sniffing the ground along the trail i used the day before to approach the feeder and change the feed time {it was feeding too early - while it was still dark}. All of a suden he bolted. i think he smelled my scent fromt he day before. There is no other reason for him to have run off so dramatically. Had he came 10 yards closer, he may have been my first trad victim. The deer seemed to be moving at night and were also probably eating acorns as feeder activity was not very good.

Woddy I have had the wise old boars do me the same way, they get your sent from the trail you used, before I get close to my stand now I find a pine sapling and stand on it and rub my boots real good seems to help.

I have been busted by scent as well. I have also seen the older pigs circle around to approach the feeder from downwind. The young ones just rush right in.

the pigs sniffer is just up there with a blood hound. if you think different, why do they eat grubs, roots, and things from the ground?

great noses.... a lone pig is very cautious compared to how they come in when there in groups.... and they can pick up on day old scents.... easy

They are not too sensitive. I kicked one in the nose once and it just grunted and went on about it's business.

Best noses in the woods, and about the smartest 4 legged animal alive.

They can hear real good also, but they can't see very well.
Not being able to see well don't seem to really bother them.

Their one real weakness - their stomachs.

Great noses...and I tend to think that their eyes aren't as bad as some think.

I have also seen big pigs circle for 15-20 minutes, nose to the ground just like a bloodhound, grunting and snorting at the ground before finally coming in to feed.

wear rubber boots and try not to walk on their trails

Had one wind me at over 200 yds and I was up 22 feet in a tree with pretth good scent elimination on. Not the best cause I was rifle hunting but he sure threw up his head when he got in the wind and didnt waist any time getting out of there.
