He had a friend in the Ft Stockton area that helped him build a long bow named Darrell.

    Made his arrowheads outta obsidion?

He made everything but his strings.

    Thought he might be you.

Very nice work! Thats on my "things to do this year" list. There's a Knap-in in Fredricksburg April 20-22. I'm planning on going to see if I'm learnable or not!

The Kerrville Archery & bowhunters Association(Centerpoint) are having a 3D shoot the same weekend( April 22)

You can contact Tink for more info.

Centerpoint isn't to far from Kerrville, You might try both events.

Nice looking pieces there, Darrell. (not the bow, the knapper)

Knap-in April 20-22 in Fredricksburg...hhmmmm...thanks for the info, Larry. Gotta talk to the boss and see if I can get a pass for that weekend.

The only other info I have on the Knap-in is it's east of town, off 290 I assume, at the Old Fest Celebration.

tinman, One more thing that I might mention. If you can pick up a copy of "The Art of Flint Knapping" by D. C. Wordorf, I think this book will give you more helpful information as a beginner. I think you can find the book at 3riversarchery.com
                  Good luck!

                    Tinman,
If you can find a place that makes things out of "blown glass" you can pick up some of their "slag" and have it cut into slabs with a rock saw. You can get some really nice colors of glass that way and make some really neat stuff. Good practice for flaking. I like the axis tools. I've always heard that axis antler is some of the best for flaking. I have a moose antler billet for percussion. I'm not too good at the knapping, but I learned a lot from a group of "older" gentlemen who were meeting once each week just to sit around and knap. Each of them had his own style and all were very good at it. If you can find a group like that near you, you can benefit greatly from sitting in on one of their sessions. Good luck with it and I hope you have lots of patience for learning.

I have been using the copper tip to take flakes from the edges of ceramic tile scraps I have around the house...and I ruined an obsidian preform that I have had for a few years. I can already see that it will help develop (read:TEST) my patience...don't laugh...well, don't point while you laugh at least!

I found this link called, from beer bottle to arrowheads...I'll take your advice FK and try that next.

Steve, I actually know a guy that owns a glass art studio in Seagoville...I'll have to look him up and inquire about this "slag".

                      Thanks for the tips.
