On broadside passthrus, blood is found immediately at POA......if not a passthru or poor hit, I don't think it has ever been more than 10-12 yards from POA to first blood or at least some sign or evidence of poor hit (gut shot, etc).
More often than not, right where they were standing, if not, within a few feet. I shoot the original Journeymans, the new Aces and Snuffers and Woodsmean
I dont know what im doing wrong.... I have shot snuffers and now the magnus stingers and dont get me wrong i like both broadheads alot but i cant remember the last shot ive made that there was blood under 15 yards from poi. I get my heads shaving sharp, get pass throughs and ive been lucky enough that for a long time i havent made a bad shot. everything is lung or heart and midchest or lower.... hmmmm
John, I know what you are talking about. I used to use the 1 1/8" GK's and 1 1/8" Magnus 2-blades and, even with perfect shot placement, blood trails were a lot less than what I would have expected (sometimes so bad I thought I may not find an animal). Since I changed to the wider heads I have not had those problems. I think that the wounds with the narrower 2 blades get closed up or covered up with the animals skin and prevent the blood from exiting like you think it should.
I shoot a Sasquatch head. Shot about 8 critters last year with them and almost always found exidence of hitting an animal almost immediately. I like the heads but they do whistle so I put scotch tape on them and it seems to help out. Do the GK's make a whistle sound?
I am shooting the Sasquatch and have only harvested one animal with them. I have harvested many ainmals with a compound. I have also tried several broadheads over the years. I have never seen a fixed blade broadhead cause the damage the sasquatch has. The pig I shot didnt get a pass though but I hit both lungs and had blood immediately and lots of it. I measured the hole afterwards and it was nearly 4 inches! I dont see how anything can close up this big. I also had whistle from them when shooting without the bleeders. Strangely enough when using the bleeders the heads fly silent and very accurate. I suggest using one of the 1 1/2 size heads and I think you will see different results. I have shot rage, slick tricks, stingers, magnus 2 blade, and grizzlies. Nothing did what the sasquatch did and it wasnt like it was a heart shot that blew through both sides. Just my 2 cents and limited experience.
If you shoot heart/lungs and you get a complete pass through in the lower half of the body....you will have blood in the first twenty yards. If you watch videos in super slow motion you can see blood before the animal leaves the frame after the shot. The one exception I can think of is an animal (hog) with a huge fat layer that may block the wound.
If you hit mid body or above, or the arrow stays in the animal to block the hole....it could be much longer, or you may not find much blood at all. Regardless of the type of head you use.
Finding blood is a skill just like everything else. The best way to learn is to do it with someone who is very good at it. They will show you blood that you would have missed. It is important to look at the underside of vegatation, stems, groups of ants, etc...
I'm color blind. I went for years thinking I wasn't getting much of a blood trail. A few years ago I started videoing my hunts. 90% of the time there is a spray of blood as soon as the arrow hits. I have been using silly big heads to help make up for my lack of trailing ability.

I shoot the Zepher Tempest. I love it. On a good hit, I get blood immediately. On a not so good hit, I still have blood. Maybe not as much as I would like, but still some blood.
well im pretty confident that im making the right shots and in my tracking, but you can always learn something new. I might have to try some of these 1 1/2" heads.... the reason i switched to the magnus was because i wanted more pass throughs.... do the 1 1/2 heads have the penetration resistance of the three blades like snuffers or is it still better? those GK's are awesome in every way it seems from astetics to performance..... its just that price that makes me shy
Shot a doe this week in ND both lungs and liver she ran 85 yards no blood. She was hit mid body. Last season I hit one in the heart she had an immediate blood trail and she went about 85 yards.
