    String keeper

    All -

this may belong in the DIY section but i figured I would get more looks here.

Question: does anyone have instructions or would be willing to post pics of their homemade/custom leather string keeper?
I realize I can buy one for a few bucks but would prefer soemthing a little more personalized.

    Any info/ideas would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I made one a while back that came out ok but I think the leather I used was the biggest limitation. I cut a piece of leather with a wide tear drop shape at the top (wrap around your limb tip and allow for a seam) then tapered it down to a strip which I left pretty long so I could trim it to fit later. I then cut some fairly thin strips of the same leather about 3-4" long again, these can be trimmed later. Then I cut a small slit in the end of each strip just as long as the strip is wide. Next I wrapped the tear drop end around the limb tip and marked about 4-6 spots to insert the strips as "stitches" for lack of a better term. Next I cut slits where the marks were the width of the strips. Finally I inserted the strips through the seam and then back through the slit in the strip...then I cinched them down. This makes a nice dangling leather cinch that holds the limb tip end of the keeper together. You can place this on the tip then take the long tag end down the limb, through the string loop, and back up the limb to keep it snug. THen just wrap the tag end around the limb a couple times and tie it off. I lost it or I would post pics. Feel free to PM me for my phone number and I can probably explain in person better.

OR...You can just use a rubber band!!!!
