    Shooting exercise

    Well I decided to shoot my brother's 40# recurve tonight, and noticed that I shot it ALOT better than my 50# due to not straining myself.

    Does anyone have any excersise to help build strength?

      push ups and pull ups work well.

        Run over to Cabela's and pickup a BowFit and it's DVD it has a bunch of good exercises for archery fitness.. I recommend it to all my students.

          Dont worry about excersise just take your brothers bow away from him. That what brothers are for you know.

            So I give it back to you so it can sit in a cold dark room and never get shot......That wouldn't be fair to the bow

              Find some one to loan you a 60# pull bow and shoot it a while. That fifty will feel like nothing.

                Shooting is the best thing I know you can do, make sure not to pick up bad habits and/or form if you try shooting a heavier bow. Most of your shooting is done with the back not in the arms. Do you anchor and hold for a time or release as soon as you touch your anchor. Practice holding may help.

                  Hold your bow at full draw for a 10 count before each shot. worked for me.

                    Glen, you don't need any bow pulling exercise, your arms are as big as my legs.

                          I've used this routine for years and it has helped me considerably. Free weights are a great way to slap on the required muscle when shooting a bow isn't always in the cards.
