    Walther P22 thoughts?

    Thought about picking one up.
Main though would be a lighter daily carry.
But more so, my wife would probably be comfortable with it when she wants to carry.

    I currently carry a Hellcat or Shield(40).
I really like my Hellcat a lot but I find myself not carrying very much at all if ever.

Just looking for thoughts on the P22 if anyone has any personal exp with them.

IMO it is way better than a sig mosquito. Not sure I would chose to carry it but it is a fun little gun.

They good guns but in my honest opinion the solution to your not carrying is find something more comfortable to carry. I tried to carry a compact xds 9mm and just wouldn't do it as it was a royal pain in the butt for me personally.

My solution was a sw bodyguard in a pocket holster and I now carry religiously. Then they came out with the Ruger lcp max and that has taken over as my daily carry. Feel way better carrying around 10 rds of 380 than I do 22 lr

They don't have a great track record or reputation for being reliable.

I had one for a little while. Quality was not the best and reliability was ok. Mine was an early model so it may be better now but, not something I'd stake my life on.

Love my p22, if were talking about the same gun(22 cal. ) hope you can find something a little bigger for a carry gun tho. Good luck

I've test fired one. Once when it was new and again later on after it had been used a while. It was plenty accurate but jammed a few times. But that's not to say it wasn't the ammunition that caused that problem either. Rimfires are finicky about that sometimes.

For a carry gun I don't know that I'd trust any rimfire to be honest. I shoot rimfires quite a bit and although it doesn't happen often the ammunition isn't as reliable as centerfire ammo. I'd sure hate to need it and have the gun "snap" on a round. Not a good time to be clearing malfunctions when it's a live or die situation.

I vote get a .25acp or .380 at the bare minimum.

had one , sold it ! it was a good compact suppressor host , but it ended there ! not that accurate , not that reliable. mine only really liked the super high speed ammo which defeated the purpose of shooting suppressed ... TX22 is way better IMO

                    I have a slew of 22 pistols…the p22 is one I no longer have.

Will your wife actually be able to shoot someone. I bought my wife a PK380 but she can't even kill a trapped mouse in a cow molasses tub. Might be wishing for something that most likely won't happen like me.

Shot about a hundred rounds in mine this weekend. Mixed box leftovers thrown in a ziplock over the years. Didn’t cycle everything perfectly but thunderbolt subs seemed ok.

Lots of fun terrorizing beer cans at least!

The safety is in the wrong place. You have to completely change your grip to take it off safty. Get the Ruger SR22. Great gun and the safty is in a good place to flip it off with changing your grip.

I had a P22 and it was a fun little rig but gave it to my brother in law for my niece to practice with. I picked up an FN 502 Tactical and that thing is amazeballs. Check them out along with the Taurus TX22.

When I first bought mine in 2010 it wouldn't extract spent casings. Sent it back to Walther (S&W at the time) they sent it back completely jacked and still wouldn't extract. Last summer I sent it back to Walther after finding it in my closet and remembering I have it. They confirmed the barrel was trash and put in a new one. Now the only thing it doesn't cycle is CCI quiet 22 which is not surprising since it is only about 700 fps. Other than that I think I could load a rock in it and it would shoot it now.

Obviously the 22 isn't ideal for a defensive weapon but it sure beats the hell out of not having a gun!
