Run down on Remington J locks

Found a rifle I like with a j lock, I have never owned one with it. What’s the good and bad with it?

I believe they complaint was the lock time is slower, but the firing pin mechanism is replaceable with one that doesn’t have a j lock if desired. I can not say I could tell a difference though myself.

Get a bolt shroud from Pacific Tool & Gauge and replace the J lock bolt shroud.

J-locks were a "saftey feature" in Remington 700's from 2001 ~ 2005. Corporate attorneys recommended this after the Walker trigger litigation. The JL spring causes binding inside the bolt body and can affect timing. Most people remove the POS JL setup and buy a new firing pin, spring, and bolt shroud

BK has some good advice on a replacement. I would buy from someone else besides PTG. Their QC has seriously gone downhill in the last 10 years and they are no longer reliable IMO.

Throw it in the trash and just get a new firing pin assembly.

I've got the J Lock on a Remington 870 I bought about 20 years ago. I just turned it to the fire position and use the safety like I would on any other non-J Lock 870. For those in the know, is there any issues involving the J Locks for Remington shotguns like there are with the 700 rifles. Any insight would be appreciated.
