    Silencer question on 300blk

I’ll start by saying I understand the difference between semi auto and bolt action noises. I just got my nomad-L a couple days ago. When running my 10.5” 300 pistol with 125gr reloaded with h110 and some factory 147 Remington it still rings the ears. Same ammo and can on a 16” Ruger it’s super quiet. Can on a similar setup in 223 is super quiet, as quiet as the 16” bolt 300. What can I do to bring the noise down or is it a 300 thing. I was always under the impression a 300 blk is pretty quiet. I understand barrel length but am confused to why the 223 is so quiet. If I run subs in the 300 pistol it’s no where near as quiet as the subs in bolt, probably comparable to the 16” in supers. Is it possible since I’m loaded hot ish with h110 that it’s causing extra noise or would it make sense to bump bullet weight to 160-180 and try to slow it down to 2000ish fps. New can owner, not new with mechanics of bullets and understanding how things work.

Short barrels are just going to be loud. .300 Blackout running supersonic isn’t really going to be any quieter than another caliber. It gets it’s reputation for being quiet from subs.

Shorter barrels are going to be louder but it shouldn't be ringing your ears. I run a 12" 458 socom and a 10.5" .223 and both are hearing safe with my Hybrid. It could be your bolt is opening too soon and you're getting the noise out the breech. Where is it throwing the brass?

I run mine on a 10.5" I built with all Aero components and with supers, it's like shooting a .22. More noise from the action than anything. Comfortable, no ringing ears.
On a bolt Ruger American it's stupid quiet. Sorry, no help here.

Your loads may be barely supersonic in that gun. Maybe the H110 pushes the bullet to supersonic in 10” of barrel but then in your Ruger the additional 6” of barrel create enough friction to slow the bullet back down below supersonic.

We have an 8.5” 300BO with an old timey SpecWar762. I load 190gr to 1100fps in a Spikes AR, and it is so quiet it makes people giggle the first time they shoot it. You can actually see the bullet fly to the target on a sunny day.

My loads are 125gr hornady running around 2k if I remember what chronograph showed in the 10.5. I get that shorter barrels are loud, but my .223 is 10.5 and half as loud as the the 300. I’ll have to check where brass is throwing guess I could be hearing gas slip from there.

The combination of the short barrel
and the gas pop from the bolt is what is making it ring your ears.
