    What am I missing?

It's crazy how many people have or shoot a 6.5 Creedmoor these days. Several buddies of mine have them and shoot them frequently. I've shot them and so on and so forth. I don't know why I'm just not that impressed with it. What am I missing?

I feel like as popular as they are I should have one.

LoL No sir, I do not.

At longer ranges I suppose it might shine above some of the others. But inside 300 yards (common hunting ranges) I'd rather have one of the oldies. .243,.257 Roberts,270.....maybe I'm just boring.

I think you have to show proof of being in a college fraternity to even qualify!

I kid, OP. It's just one more rifle caliber, nothing more.

The case design gives them potential for very good accuracy, then depending on what rate of twist the gun has, as to what bullets it will like. Most factory guns seem to be 1 in 8 twist, which is good for 130 gr. bullets, some claim 140 gr. bullets, but my gun did not like the 140 gr. bullets I was trying to use. But they were quite a bit longer than common 140 gr. bullets, I really needed a 1 in 7.5 or 1 in 7 twist to make those bullets work properly. Even with bullets in the 130 gr. range, you can get some good BC numbers.

The fact the case is shorter than say a 308, 7mm-08, you can get longer bullets seated farther out of the case, and still fit in a common short action magazine. With a case the length of a 308, you won't be able to seat a bullet as far out of the case and still fit in a short action magazine.

They are not going to out perform ballistically something like a 6.5X55 Swede or 6.5-284, or a 6.5 PRC, but for the size of the round, they perform very well. If you choose the right cases and powders, you can squeeze a bit more out of them, than you would probably expect.

I have one, I was shooting it today, it has zero recoil, at least my gun has none. Shoots nice tight groups, with the 129 gr. Accubond Long Rage bullets, it will produce pretty good performance down range. My hand loads are actually on par with some good 270 Win. loads, but out of a much smaller case. Most loads are not going to get to that level.

I am going to try out multiple of the newer designed rounds, that have efficient case designs, that are short, for the purpose of allowing bullets to be seated good ways out of the case. I plan on putting together a 224 Valkyrie and a 6mm ARC, also. These are all rounds that use modern ideas on how a round should be designed. The concepts have actually been around for quite a while, but only really put to use by wildcatters.

I built a 260 Rem after a wad o people said I should go with 6.5CM because of ammo availability.
              What ammo availability! Lol!
I hand load and have lots of components.

My take, ammo and gun makers have to constantly come up with something new in order to remain relevant. I’ve never owned a 6.5 Creedmoor but I can’t believe that an animal will die any quicker from it than from a 6.5 Swede, a .260 Rem, or any other number of “old” cartridges that one might want to use. I’ll admit to being old school, my favorite deer cartridges are 25-06 and .280 Rem. They get the job done very well.

The 260 REM is a great round.

Yes, most folks missed the 260 REM because Remington stinks at advertising

Like the 6mm Rem, or the 7mm Rem Express?

I think a lot of the problem for me is it got too popular. I say I'm boring but I like cartridges that aren't as popular the most. If something is too trendy I tend to not like it. Couldn't tell you why. That's just a me thing, it doesn't make it bad. That's just me being me. I'm that way with everything. I'm just weird I guess.

You couldn't pay me to wear a straight brimmed hat either. There's nothin wrong with 'em. Except too many people wear 'em.

After my buddy shot a deer with his for the first time I almost immediately didn't like it. He called and said he knew he hit it and it got into some thick stuff and he couldn't see it. I asked what it did when he shot it and he said it walked off with its tail moving around a lot and jumped the fence. My first words were "That's never happened with the .243 or .257 Roberts." I didn't mean it like "That cartridge or bullet sucks." But maybe in a roundabout way it's what I meant. Probably deep down that's how I felt. He found the deer and the shot was good, but I wasn't too impressed with the whole "walking around" bit.

But to be fair that was just one time. I'm stuck in my ways is all. I'm not old but I'm old school in a lot of ways. A .243 might not have done any better......it would have.....but might not have too.

In fairness that could happen with any round. I know several guys that shoot them and they are really happy with them. I'll stick with my .260 as I don't have near enough hair for a man bun!!!
