Barrel length & Twist for 25-06

Wanting a custom build 25-06…. What would be the optimal barrel length & twist rate. I’m thinking about a Proof Sendero carbon fiber

I’m limited in experience, but 24” should do the trick just fine.

1/10 twist is standard, but will only stabilize up to 120gr or so. If you plan on stretching its legs and shooting higher grain projectiles(130gr+) then I’d go with a faster twist. Should still shoot the 100-120gr bullets just fine, but someone with more knowledge than me would have to confirm that. Pretty sure most go with a 1/9”.

I'd probably go with a 7.5 or 8 twist so I could load the heavy bullets.

1:9 would be a good twist. If you are hand loading for it I’d make the suggestion to do the Ackley version. The 25-06AI runs in the heels of a 257 WBY. Just food for thought if you haven’t considered it.

Go with 7.5 if you intend to run any of the new heavy for caliber bullets-- Berger, Hammer or even the new .257 ELDM (134gr)

I'd go 1:9. Heavier bullets don't mean squat. It's the length of the bullet that matters and you can only go so long and still feed a 2506.

I have a 700 Long Range 25-06 w/ a 26”. It’s awesome. But I would also go the AI route if it’s a custom gun. The 1 in 9 should do anything you want in this caliber.

The very longest Berger bullets need a 1:8" twist. I'd go at least 24" inches on the barrel and maybe longer if the balance was right.
