I went to shoot my 300 and 22 today. I just got a new scope and mounted it on my 300. I then put the other scope on my 22 this week.
After shooting the 22 it seemed to go good. I made sure to re-tighten the star screws with a measuring tourque driver on the 300. I struggled with getting the elevation going. It finally seemed to track consistently. I got it close. I was feeling the barrel to let it cool. I looked at the scope. I noticed some marks on the new scope
It had slipped forward 3/4"-1" all the way to where the zoom dial had stopped it. I thought wow that is weird. I stopped shooting. I was putting my 22 away in the case and noticed it had done the same thing.
I have mounted plenty of scopes in my time with no problems ever. To have this happen once was weird but twice??
30mm tube and rings. Tightened to specs with a torque screw driver.
Why would they slip?
Why would the scope slip forward?
How to stop them from slipping?
