    Any .45ACP reloaders here?

I am looking real hard on reloading for my 45. Any suggestions on powder or any other necessities. I have an idea on the bullets I will be using, other than that I am clueless

I like N320 because I load .45 and 9mm with it but it was also easily available at decent prices during Covid so I was able to grab a couple 4lb jugs. Feeds really well in my Franklin intellidropper

I’ve also used Universal a lot with good results and still have a couple 1lb bottles of that as backup.

Usually loading 230gr for range and self defense ammo

My 45 ACP loads are based on NRA Precision Pistol (also known as "Bullseye") and CMP matches.

For 25 yards, I use Zero brand 185 JHP bullets (from Roze Distribution) and 4.1 grains of Vihtavouri N310 powder. Seat bullet for 1.197 - 1.200" and set case mouth crimp to 0.470"...this is a reduced recoil load that should produce about 725-750 fps from a 5" barrel. VV N310 meters very well for accurate charges and burns very cleanly.

For 50 yards, I use the same seating and crimping but increase powder to 4.3 grains. The powder increase gives you a bit more velocity but is still manageable shooting one handed.

When I can't get VV N310, I use Bullseye powder...4.1 grains for 25 yds and 4.5 grains for 50 yds. Bullseye shoots great but is dirtier than Vihtavouri...I end up with flakes on my forearm after a session at the range.

200gr cast swc. Unique powder if you can find it. Good target load.

I haven't shot store bought 45acp in 20 years that I can remember.
              I use Starline brass exclusively.
              My two pet loads are
230gr ball with 8.0 gr Power Pistol and CCI 300 primers
230gr HP with 6.1gr CFE Pistol and CCI 350 primers
I use carbide dies and a Lee taper crimp.

Titegroup is what I use. Also messed with some titewad but it seems pretty flashy—velocity spreads are pretty big.

Titegroup and Clays. Works great with SWC and LRN loads.

i only have 43 years reloading and shooting them,,,, so I might be lacking some basic knowledge,,, but blue dot for speed loads and Winchester 231 for plinking..... unique is extra filthy if you like a lot of cleaning, use it..... cant really argue with red dot, about the same as 231, but 231 meters and throws better....but both offer great light loads, but pressures can build up easily with either..... I am sure there are some newer powders that might give good velocities and some that will make fine plinking loads...... however since they never broke I am not going to fix it! With somewhere over 100,000 rounds of 45 shooting,,,, most of it handloads,,, these two have served very well.

It will be home defense rounds only, no plinking.
