I was shooting 40's and 50's vintage ammo in the early 2000s in all the cheap surplus rifles I was buying. Never had an issue.

70s or 80s? I though you said it was old.

I have a bunch of 30-30 and 243 ammo from the 80’s, and I’ve never had a single bad round.
I’d recommend trying it side by side with new production ammo to see if the ballistics/components have degraded over time.

I shoot 22-250 pre barcode with no issues. I have some 22 lr from the 60s that had a dud rate of 10 percent. Modern powder and primers last a long time.

I shot some 35 rem from the 70s no problem.

On Saturday I put some old ammo to use. It worked flawlessly.

I put this old Waffle Top I recently acquired, and some older ammo to use plinking steel a while back, and have had no issues.

Believe 55 on the rifle, not sure on ammo.

Back then they probably used real silver on those Silvertips.
