    Indention in casing

My son left this casing in his pocket and it was laundered. Never noticed this before. If came from a stag arms LH 5.56 AR. Is this normal?

There was something, gun powder, grain of sand, ECT., in the chamber when it went off.

Might could have taken a ding in the laundry?

        This sounds like the answer.

Could have been a glob of oil or case lube. You can get similar to that running cases thru reloading dies with too much lube. Usually on the shoulder though. I never seen it that far down.

Seems like if it was caused by debris in the chamber it would have left a score line on the case from the dimple towards the bullet when the cartridge was loaded and ejected.

Before I tuned my buffer and gas tube my cases were getting the mouth of
the necks caved in but never down that far.

That’s not an ejector port strike. That issue more than likely was created in the chamber. I’m gonna wager that it was caused by an unburned power flake inside the chamber left from the previous round. It’s typical to see/find unburned powder flakes in the barrel. However some of those flakes can migrate down to the chamber with simply handling the firearm. If those were reloads it’s time to rethink the recipe and adjust accordingly. If it’s factory ammo, you might want to try a different brand. Not all factory ammo is created equal nor are reloads. Best of luck to ya.

Thanks for all responses! The only reason I asked was it looked like a perfect indentation on the case. I checked the others my youngest collected and there were no other marks. May have been a random that he just happened to collect.
