    Suppressor Accuracy

I took my browning 7mm rem mag x-bolt out today to check if it was on before going hunting at the end of the month. I sighted it in over a year ago. Scope is a leupold V3xi hd. My first shot I put the suppressor on, this is my first time to shoot this gun suppressed. I was over a foot low. Ammo being expensive and me not having much of it I decided to take the suppressor off after that one shot.

I shot another 4 or 5 rounds (no suppressor) and all of them were within 3 or 4 inches of bullseye at 100 yards and had 2 bullseyes.

Could the suppressor really make that big of a difference? It’s appropriately rated for the gun. I’m not the worlds best shooter but I don’t ever miss by over a foot.

Yes most will change the point of impact.

It's all about harmonics & the lighter the barrel, the more it can throw w/ the can from previous impact...try shooting another 3 shot string & if the gun groups similar as it did sans can then you are gtg & just make the scope adjustment.

If it shoots patterns with the can vs without then you could have slight baffle strike issues.

Yes you will most likely have a POI shift with the can.

I’d be more concerned about shooting 4” groups at 100yds.

Yep. They will change the point of impact most times. Varies gun to gun, and some won’t at all. I use the same suppressor on all my rifles.

Ruger American Predator .308- 4 inches straight down with the suppressor on.
Ruger Precision Rifle 6.5creed- 1.5 inches low and 1.5 inches left.
          300blk AR15- 3in low, 1 inch right.
          300blk rem 700- 1 inch low, 1 inch left
          223 AR15- 2 inches low

It is repeatable too. I can shoot a group without it on, put it on and shoot a group and keep doing that and watch it go between the two points of impact.

It can also effect what bullet the gun seems to like. I only encountered it on my 308, but it LOVED 165gr gamekings before I got the suppressor. After I put it on it would open to a 2 inch group. Played around and found it liked 150gr gamekings with the suppressor on so that’s what I shoot now.

The 4” is me. My last two shots were bullseyes on a 2” bullseye. Shooting off a cooler in the back of my sxs. No bags or bipods and expecting a big recoil.

I found it strange b/c I keep the suppressor on a 5.56 AR. I sighted it in without the suppressor and it stayed accurate once the suppressor was put on. Well at least accurate enough to kill hogs. Haven’t tried a side by side comparison with it on and off.

May very well find that it shoots the same on or off. Or might just be a small difference that still keeps you minute of pig.

Lol. You get it. I’m not looking for sub moa. Just real world shooting and killing an animal. I was there when I quit shooting today. Over a foot off seemed strange.

Makes sense. I might try one more time tomorrow with the can to see if I get a similar shot.

Lots of variables are at play here. First, the barrel harmonics change when adding the weight of the can. Second, different manufactures use different shaped cones(baffles) along with different “clipping” of said baffles. There has been extensive testing done that certain “clipping” of the baffles produces POI shifts in certain guns while some will retain POA/POI. There is a chubby dude who goes by the name Silencer Student who has done years of testing regarding POI shift with various baffle “clipping”. Look him up. BTW, that 4” group is no bueno amigo lol.

I have found the can always makes the rifle shoot low and left or right but always low
