    First long range attempt

After pulling the card for Laguna, I gifted myself a new Christensen Arm 300wsm and bought a Zeiss V6 off TBH.

In preparation for our hunt this coming weekend I wanted to try my hand at some 300 yard shots. I've never shot past 100 in my life.

First time shooting prone as well as using a backpack as rifle rest. I think I did fairly well. This is going to get addictive fast!

Nice shooting. What was the load you’re using?

Nice start man. Get a chronograph and verify velocity plug into ballistic calculator and get the solution for further ranges. Shooting out to 500 yards is pretty easy with a little practice. What optic are you using?

This right here. You will be surprised how close most ballistic calculators will get you granted you plug in the right information. For me that required buying a chronograph. That improved my accuracy big time. I use Berger’s Ballistic calculator since it is the bullet I’m shooting in my 257. I am fairly confident in this rifle out to 800.

I bought my wife a 6 mm arc and I will soon be getting her on steel at long distances. I was amazed how accurate that rifle was right out of the box with factory 103 grain ELDX Precision Hunters. I am sure I can tune that up a little tighter once we accumulate some brass. Just waiting for deer season to end and I’ll reach my goal of 1000 yards this year. 800 was pretty easy just need more practice doping for wind. I have been picking my mornings going out on calm days. I will try and get some breezy day practice this year.

I think my biggest mistake was using hold over hash marks in mils instead of dialing up on elevation. Once I started dialing up for elevation and using hold over for wind it improved my hit ratio big time. Think the difference was my scope being SFP. Dialing up definitely helped. Like mentioned above it’s addictive and lots of fun. Can’t wait to get my wife ringing steel. I am confident I can get her consistent to 500 for sure, maybe further as she can shoot well all ready.

I'm using the Zeiss Ballistic Calc App.
Sighted in to 1" circle at 150. Dialed up turret for 300yd shot. Pretty dang close.

Shooting off a backpack and 1st time in prone played a large part in the open group, I think.

Once you get comfortable being able to follow through and learn recoil management long range gets easier.

100-750 yards depending on target size is pretty easy once you get beyond that the wind really starts playing havoc as well as having a solid load. If your gun shoots 3/4-1moa you should be able to make good hits out to 1000.

Just takes practice. Learn the basics. Looks like you’re off to a good start.

It's amazing how well these large animals can hide in what we perceive as "wide open"
