    Canik TP9SFX Review

I picked up a Canik TP9SFX today. I didn’t see any recent posts about it so I thought I’d share for those looking to spend their gift cards and such. Bass Pro Shop and Academy both have them for $499 right now. Pistol comes optics ready with 4 mounting plates, holster, and two 19+1 mags included.

Fit and finish: seems to be very solid and functions smoothly

Internals: look high quality and most are already polished (no need for the $0.25 trigger job)

Trigger: has a LOT of pre-travel but a solid, crisp break at the wall with a very light pull. Reset is very short. 8/10 on this portion

Shootability: 9/10. Extra length and weight helps to keep it on target. Grip angle and width are very comfortable for my hands which I’d say are average sized (M/L golf glove)

Optics ready: added a Vortex Venom. Having the plates included was a cool bonus. No co-witness option but that’s okay for me.

Overall: 9/10. If the trigger had a little less pre-travel, I’d give it a 10/10. After spending some time at the range today, it easily replaced my Glock 19 as my EDC after a 10 year run.

Hope this helps you as you’re planning on how to spend your Christmas money.

I’ve got two of them. One is bone stock other than a Venom, and the other has a freedomsmith trigger, a heavy backstrap and a holosun. I use them for USPSA and see no need to change. I’ve shot glocks, m&p, CZ etc and don’t find an appreciable difference in any of them. The canik won 3 national USPSA championships this year.

My only complaint (and it may be different now) is mag availability. I had to dremel a couple of 10 round mags and then got lucky on the second one I bought as it had 6 or so mags with it. You don’t have those problems with a Glock.

Thanks for the review! Do they have multiple models available at BP?

1.8 pounds! That’s a chonky EDC...my next edc will probably be the kel-tec p15 that holds 15 rounds of 9mm and weighs 14oz’s.

I picked up the SFX METE, about 300 rounds down the tube and prefect. Holsun green dot sight added, can hit targets at 50 yards, very accurate. I found mags at Primary Arms on sale $15 for 19 round capacity. I would recommend, check out the reviews online.

It’s really not bad with a good belt and holster. I’ve only carried it OWB but it has been very comfortable.

I bought this one about a year ago. I put about 50-60 shots thru it one afternoon during a quickly gun range stop. I think it’s a great gun. I bought a Holosun 507k to put on it, but the mounting plate is wrong. I put the gun back in the box and haven’t taken the time to get the correct plate and mount it up. I can see it being my EDC after shooting it a little bit more. So far, I’ve been impressed with the Canik line.

if you don't mind me asking, about how big are you and how do you carry this firearm? I'm looking at one of these but i was thinking it would be tough to conceal, but i'm also at 6'1" 250+lbs so i guess it's possible. if you're about my size and can CC it then my hunt for a subcompact becomes less pressing.

edit: you can PM me if you'd rather not share that info with the class.

Replaced the trigger with the Canik flat face aluminum trigger. LOVE IT!!!! Was a huge pain to install but well worth it.
