Wanted to share a model 7 I was working on for a friend, as usual I never get the best before pictures but hey I’ve got some at least. Chambered in 223 and the first year of production for that caliber of 1984.
Anyway when I got the gun the trigger was so gummed up it was stuck in the rear position and thus the bolt wouldn’t stay cocked unless you put the safety on with the bolt back. But when you flipped it off it would fire, not great.
Onto the finish, it had some kind of clear coat that was faded and falling off in several areas and it looked pretty ratty. Had a little bit of surface rust in various places and has some bluing loss in a few places but I’m not going to cold blue it for now. It has an old gloss leupold (I need to check the mfg date) and it’s got a few scars and blemishes also. It just needed a good cleaning.
I scraped all of the remaining finish off the stock and gave it a light sanding with some 220. At the recommendation of a stock builder I refinished with 4 coats of Dalys teak oil and then a final coat of Renaissance wax to protect the finish/wood from the elements and give a little bit of a sheen. Overall I’m extremely happy with how it turned out and I am now on the search for another project Rifle for myself.
Before pics, note the upside down 3rd scope ring I guess for mounting a light?

After stripping of the finish and cleaning of all the metal

After 1 coat of oil

And finished with a final coat of wax
