6mm is a perfect deer size game caliber. I set up a 243 Win a couple of years ago just for deer and Antelope. I live the caliber.
I worked up a great load for mine using the Barnes 80 gr TTSX bullet.
Not just a great caliber to start your son off on, but a lifelong caliber for him to use. For deer, hogs etc., in that size range there is no need to shoot anything different.

6mm creed did work again this morning for my nephew. He dropped it in its tracks at 140. Then was proud to haul it out in his Ranger lol
