I'm a Marlin guy because that's what my Grandpa shot. Bought one just like it in 1983 when I was old enough. Never let me down but I would like to have Winchester just because.

I do have Papa's gun. Pretty special.

Winchester has changed hands so many times. I seriously wonder about their quality and whom I would be creating jobs for. Plus, outside of military styled rifles. I never liked guns that came from a country where their citizens cannot own what they make(japan, major Win mfg). Marlin has always been a quality rifle until the Remlins appeared. But Ruger seems to have gotten Marlin back on track. I have Winchesters, Savages and Marlin lever guns. The Marlin is the one I grab... always.

Marlins feel better in the hand. And mine is pretty accurate for a lever gun.

Winchester generally has cleaner lines, Marlin generally has a better trigger and is more accurate.

Since your 94 is an XTR.. it is a later version… I only like pre-64 and pre-war 94’s… I also like JM stamped or earlier Marlins… I pick up a 94.. when I want an open sight 30-30… If I want a scoped one.. I go with the Marlin…
