Any bullet casters on here? Cast Bullet trade thread

So who pours lead, and if so, what calibers?

I would like to start this off as a cast bullet trade section. Be awesome to try a few of whatever bullets from whatever mold before you buy.

    I cast .30 cal, 9mm, 12 and 20 ga, buckshot from #F all the way up to .715” round balls, 45, 44.

Been casting for about 55 years. Currently it's .44, .45 pistol, .45 rifle, .30, .35, .357, 10mm, and have multiple molds in most of those calibers. Don't cast any shotgun slugs or shot though..Powder coat, and conventional lube and size, and even paper patch a few.

I just started working on casting bullets, about a year ago. So far I have a NOE molds 434-296, for 44 caliber and 460-396 for 458 caliber. I have found the 460-396 and the other Lyman 405 gr. based 45-70 bullets don't work in 458 SOCOM for crap. I plan on buying one to two 9mm and 10mm molds in the near future, I am working on ARs in those two calibers. I may do an AR in 45 ACP, if I do, I will be looking for a mold for that caliber also. At this point I am not sure on doing a 45 ACP.

Those are the only calibers I have any plans to ever cast bullets for. The only other thing I might cast for, is if I get one of the big bore PCP rifles. I want one, but got too many other projects right now.

I am not any form of expert on the subject, I figured a few things out, still working on perfecting some things. Mainly keeping the mold proper temperature. I plan on getting something to heat up the mold and maintain a set temperature. That has been my biggest problem, other than getting cast bullets to work in my 458 SOCOM. I think I may have found a mold that will likely work very well for the 458 SOCOM, I plan on getting one eventually and trying it.

Then I have been powder coating all of the bullets I have cast. I definitely still need more practice to perfect the coating process. Getting the powder to stick has not been a problem, getting the them to come out slick has been the issue. I know where the problem is, just need to spend some time perfecting that step.

Go to the dollar tree and buy a hot plate. Hear your molds on that while you wait for your lead to come to temp.

Powder coating: what works best for me is to put my bullets in a double ziplock bag with a little powder. Then I place that bag in my vibrating case tumbler and let it do the work. A couple minutes later, they’re covered.

I use Eastwood’s powder. I set my toaster over to 400 degrees and bake them on a silicone baking mat for 30 mins to get an even flow.

NOTE: the less humidity on the day you cost, the better.

So whats the point of the powder coat? I havent casted in 2-3 years. But i have always used a candle wax gulf wax mix for lube.

            I cast .38 .44 .45 bullets.

Less smoke, less funk in the action, dies don’t get gummed up, and they look cool.

I have some Magma molds if anyone has one of their machines. A friend has a Magma Master Caster for sale.
Blood Trail How do those Hollow point's work at subsonic velocity 300BO or 308? Those may get me back into casting.

I keep saying I should get a 50 and 32 round mold and start. Maybe this winter?

Those are too light for subs (125-130 grs), but they work well in my 7.5” at pistol. The deep HP pins are like varmint rounds. Very explosive.

I do have some 220 gr HP’s from an MP mold I got from a feller off of Castboolits. Haven’t shoot them yet.

The 220 gr subs shoot really nice tho.

I’ll have two of them soon. What molds you got?
