    7mm-08 ammo for Sambar?

anyone have any recommendations on a specific brand/type of ammo you would use on a Sambar hunt? My son drew Powderhorn in January and since 7mm-08 ammo can be hard to find these days just curious what type of ammo y'all would recommend for something like a Sambar? I've got some 139 grain Hornady American Whitetail but wasn't sure if there was something better suited for something a lot bigger/tougher than a whitetail.

If, and that’s a big if, you can find 140 grain accubonds I’d go with that.

What you have will kill a Sambar easily.. Just a big deer. Their skin is not thick or tough.
Good Shot placement is the main factor..

Check with Scheels, they had multiple different ammo in 7mm/08 when I was there last week.

I’ve got some Nosler Trophy grade Accubonds I would part with if you’d like to go that route. However, they aren’t cheap.

Use the lead nose you have. They will do the job.

Any good WT bullet will do the job. I killed a good sized Sambar with a 300 Blackout a few years back.

Old green and yellow box of Remington PSP if you could find some. Only thing better would be Accubonds.

I hunted Powderhorn several years back and killed a huge bull. I can tell you they are pretty tough, but what makes them a problem is the vegetation in that area. It is some sort of scrub oak that is so thick you can't walk through it. They recommended we shoot them on the road if possible. Mine was about 10 yards in the scrub and I had a neck shot only. I shot him in the neck and crushed him. 20 seconds later he was back up and running. Took two more shots, and a bunch of scratches and cuts to finally get him down. I had missed the neck bone, but severed the tendon that runs down the back of the neck. He could not raise his head, so he could only run a short distance. 2nd shot was straight in the behind, as that was the only shot I had, 3rd was behind the shoulder. I was shooting a .280 Remington. 368# gutted. I believe if I had made a better shot on the first shot he would have anchored right there.

My two favorite bullets for 7mm-08 are 140 grain accubonds or 120 grain ttsx. Both are absolute hammers on bigger animals. Not real easy to find right now. I bet the stuff you have will work just fine. Heck, I killed a very mature nilgai cow with a 6.5 Grendel and an sst bullet. She went straight down!

x2 on the 120gr TTSX. I've got an unopened box if you're interested in that route.

Well I will say this much about the TTSX: after seeing this I’m feeling a lot better about using them out of my 25-06.

                              Love a good Mono bullet!!

That being said I'm getting exceptional accuracy from 162 ELDMs in my 7/08.... they aren't fast but they go the same place Every. Single. Time. Which is awesome from a 7 1/2lb rifle all up.
