I’d spend the money on reloading equipment and learn to reload. Nothing beats being able to tune your ammunition to your barrel.

That intrigues me. Just so many choices that it makes it hard to narrow them down.

240 wby is not the same bolt face. Real close and I may work. Ask a good gunsmith.

Did some googling and looks like the bolt face will work.

If you don't reload, .25/06 makes the most sense. .270 would be fine, too. 6.5's, the .240 Weatherby, are going to be a lot harder to find ammunition for. Personally, I'd re-barrel it to .30/06. The '06 is still a good choice with a quality barrel and bedding.

.280 AI is what I would do if I were in your shoes.

I’m loading for my dads 240 weatherby right now.

Honestly I’d prefer a 25-06 over the 240 weatherby. It’s fast, but unless you get a custom twist barrel you won’t be able to utilize the heavier high BC bullets, and the same is said for a 25-06. 25-06 is probably my favorite cartridge for deer size critters and smaller. The 240, in my opinion, is too fast unless you are shooting 300+ yds. My dad takes shots between 50 and 150 yards. An 85gr bullet at 3500fps is blazing fast at that distance. 25-06 is still fast, but not that dang fast.

240wby is expensive. Don’t reload? Looking at expensive factory ammo. Reload? Brass is high dollar compared to 25-06.

Agreed. No matter what the plan, getting into reloading is always the right choice.

So I’ve narrowed it down to 25-06 or keeping the 30-06. I already own several 308s and a 300 wm. On the lighter faster scale I have a 243 and 223s. I feel like there is more overlap with the 30-06 than 25-06.

My vote would be a 280

I love a good 2506, since you stated you already own other 3006 rifles I would go the 2506 route. Get a faster twist barrel so it will stabilize heavier bullets.
