    Need recommendations-Henry X .44 mag optic

I have a Henry X .44 that I’m kind of tricking out. I put a Ranger Point Handguard on it and debating a stock upgrade, but I’d like to decide on an optic first. I originally intended on going with a 1-6x24 from Riton, Primary, or Leupold, but have also considered a red dot. This will be a fun gun with no serious shooting at any distance, but will hunt with it from time to time. It’ll probably be more of a home defense weapon than anything. Whatever I put on it will be illuminated. Any of y’all have a .44 lever gun and some insight? Appreciate the input.

A small dot would be pretty nice and would help keep the weight down.

If your going home defense and short distance hunting I'd go with a trigicon reflex sight

Something like a Vortex Viper/Venom or a Leupold Deltapoint if you wanted that low profile type look.

SIG Romeo 5 if you wanted something a little bigger.

Either way, I’d run a red dot. 100yds or under I’ve never had an issue hunting with a red dot. Obviously as you get closer a red dot is even easier. If you wanted to make really accurate shots at 100yds(say a neck shot on a deer/pig instead of behind the shoulder) then maybe a 1-6 LVPO scope would be better.

Thanks for the input. I’m leaning towards a red dot/reflex sight. Looking at Vortex, Trijicon, & Leupold. I think the Vortex Venom will serve me well, not sure going with Trijicon or Leupold would be worth the extra coin for my intended use.

My buddy put a red dot on his Marlin Marauder in 35 rem(left). A TruGlo red dot and it has done the job for him. There are much better red dots out there since this one was made. Its different for a old school lever gun. But it works within 100yds.

Got the Romeo 5 on my Marlin 30-30 and I love it. Not bulky or heavy and does the trick. Hunted day and night with no problems.
