Opinions on Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8x x 24 scopes

I'm currently using a red dot on an AR but I'm interested in putting a scope on it with some magnification for reaching out a little with it. I'd like to stick with something that goes down to 1x power and has an illuminated reticle in order to keep something close to a red dot for fast target acquisition up close.

The Vortex scope seems to check off all the boxes of what I'm looking for and is very reasonably priced, but I've read quite a few mixed reviews of it, so I am looking for more opinions.

    Thanks!

Viper pst 2 at a minimum. The strike eagle is junk.

I have one on an AR. Works fine. I sighted it in 8 or 9 years ago when I bought it and still shoots true. I have no complaints.

Trash glass. Trash turrets. Cheaply made. They focused more on the flashy stuff than quality. Lower end vortex has always been junk. Likely always will be. There’s a reason they can warranty so many scopes and stay in business. They build em real cheap.

Don’t get me wrong. Some folks are fine with a $100 Walmart optic. To each their own. Just be honest about it. It isn’t a quality optic in any shape or form. And some folks only go to the range once a year and walk to their blind a few times and the rifle and optic rarely see any use. Hard to judge an optic based on that with exception to clarity

For the record I have a PST 2 1-6 on a 10.5” 5.56 SBR. I’ve been beating on it pretty good. Rides in my defender and truck with me all over the ranch. Got a good ding on it somehow. Hasn’t lost zero yet but I need to check it again. It took a hard hit and I missed an easy raccoon shot I don’t wanna blame the optic till I confirm. But….

Strike eagle glass to me was just downright pitiful.

I would go with a high quality but lower power optic if you want to be in that price point especially if it is a rifle you plan to hunt with.

If it's a daylight bright range gun for 0-200 then have at it.

But if you are shooting alot, shooting at early or late hours or regularly at high magnification you are going to be sorely disappointed in that glass.

Primary Arms 3x micro prism is an interesting option, I picked one up but haven’t used it a whole lot...they also make a 1-8 people seem to like. I’ve always wanted to pick up a trijicon accupoint 1-6 but they are a little more spendy

Well poo, I have a 1-6 in the safe with a LaRue mount I was trying to figure out something to do with and you literally have me considering selling it. LOL

You already own it. Try it. My pst2 isn’t bad. I’m actually fairly pleased with the abuse it’s handled. Not pleased it got that big dent though haha

I thought the same thing. But I hate it.

Holds a great zero but I can’t shoot it within an hour of sunrise or sunset… light gathering is terrrrrrible.

It has held a really nice zero. But I wish I would have gone with a higher quality and I honestly never ever use the 1x

Can't shoot what ya can't see, do your best to stretch your budget for better glass if you can.
