    First custom rifles groups

Hey guys, I was able to get to the range and after break in and scope adjustments shot my first ladder test. Components listed on target, with FPS and Group size. All new laupa brass. Tell me your thoughts and what groups I should try in my next testing. Everything loaded to 3.34 oal. I'll play with depths after I get charge closer.

I’d just load that .29” charge and stop messing with it.

Exactly. How do you even get any better than that?

73 gr was max. I've read guys going much higher with 4831. I was thinking about going a little higher with .3 groups

#13 is what I'd be working over. How long did you wait between shooting groups and did you clean the barrel anywhere in between?

I'm assuming that is a 300 win mag based on OAL and book 4831 max charge of 73.

Seat those bullets out a ways, add some more powder (only if it's safe for your gun), and let that beast eat. With the Hornady ELD, I've had my best luck at 0.020" off the lands.

              Have fun!

Good skilling on the final dope MrJamerendino.

I never knew of a ladder test until now.
                Listening for knowledge.
Thanks for posting your test and inquiry.

Honestly, with a custom rifle and those results, I’d look at a different powder or try to tighten up your reloading process. There’s some pretty large ES values on some of those charges that I wouldn’t be happy with.

Thanks man. The numbers of the groups were to the left.
11 was the most accurate. It was the same charge as 12. I shoot the same charge in 2 groups so I can try to eliminate errors.

I shot for a lonnnnggg time. 5 hours. Barrel was cool at each shot, not hot. Ran a barrel fan in-between. No cleaning since I did the barrel break in and 3x clean, 3x, clean, 5x clean and let her rip. That was from proofs break in procedure.

Thanks man. Yup, 300wm. I've got tons of room to set. Haven't even checked lands seating depth as this was my first run.

I appreciate the feedback. It was virgin laupa. I'd love to get my hands on h1000 or r26 but you can't find it. If someone does, I'd trade h4831 and cash. I've heard at 200 and larger h1000 is the ****. I posted the whole target for feedback and not just tiny groups for these type of suggestions, thanks!!

I’ve got a little over a pound of RL26 I’m not going to use. It’s too dang temperature sensitive to me. I’d be willing to sell it to you if you’re interested. I’ve been trying to buy h1000 bot going on 2 years now.

I like 11 and 12, but 12 had that flier. Not sure if that was shooter error, extreme es, or what.

You have plenty of Info to sift through so I won’t confuse you farther but I’ll add if your anywhere close to NE Tx I’ll help with a little H1000 or RL 26. Mine loves 1000 and I’d definitely be looking at a different powder, you can throw turds against the wall all day long but it’s still a ****, you have to find what powder it takes to turn it into a golden nugget I go into every new gun with an open mindset and I’ll try several different powders before settling on a single powder and load.

You mention AOL but I didn’t see mention of how much jump to land at that AOL.
