Flying with pistol with layover in NYC

I’m going to be in PA, WV, and OH for a week and was planning on taking a CCW pistol due to reciprocity in all states.

However, when I checked into my flight to Pittsburgh today I realized I have a layover in NYC (La Guardia).

I looked online and just found horror stories of people being arrested, charged, or even having mags confiscated because the airport LEOs think state laws apply to legally checked firearms.

Does anyone have any experience flying through NYC with a checked pistol? I’m thinking it might be best to leave the pistol at home to avoid issues, but that thought is really pissing me off.

Change flights and avoid that cesspool, otherwise leave the pistol at home

Yep, decided to leave it at home. Think it’s the best option since I can’t change flights.
