S&W Serial # look up help

Any of you fine people have an avenue to look up and tell me the shipping date and any other information about it?

S&W 38 Special CTG (along barrel)
Serial No. bottom of grip = 362477
Serial No. inside frame near cylinder = 77103

This pistol was carried everyday of my great grandfathers adult life. Never holstered, always just put in his front pants pocket loose.

    Appreciate it.

Sure appreciate it, not sure where my Great Grand Dad came up with it cause he was as far from being in law enforcement as one could have got. We do have a picture of him in late 1937 with it in his hand.

            Appreciate it sir.

Before my grandmothers passing she said that as long as she could remember that the pistol has been carried by either my great great grandfather or my great grand dad before she claimed it after my great grand dads passing and gave it to me.

She also said it had some type of pearl looking grips but my great grand dad busted them on someone or something during a poker game.

One story that has been passed down about the pistol is in 1939 my great grand dad was picked up by the federal boys for counterfeiting and sentenced to two years in Levingworth. He had the pistol on him when he was picked up. My great grand mother and grandmother went to the Sabine County courthouse and convinced an old drinking buddy of my great grand dads that worked as a jailer that they needed that pistol back for protection. And some how he had ties to someone at the federal level and got it back for them.

                God bless

That's a very interesting story, RWC.

Both my Great grandfather and grandfather carried all the time. Course they were in the finance business and kinda had to. My grandfather's fav .38 snubby Colt is still in the family, to be passed down one day.

I do have a cap & ball derringer that my great-grandmother Berry's uncle, Mr Collier, carried while bringing settlers to Texas. It's a .41 cal Philadelphia Derringer. Identical to the one JW Booth used on Lincon. Except a little more worn.
