    Reloading for 10mm

I need to start reloading 10mm, I was given a box of Nosler 180JHP. Per Nosler data the velocities seem super conservative for the 10mm, topping out 1200-1267 FPS using longshot. Which I feel is conservative.

The pistol is a Sig P220 Hunter. Any suggestions?

Get you a couple of good reloading manuals and go from there.

Check hodgdon. I can get 1225fps with a 180 XTP out of a 5” .40 with their data.

I like Hodgdon Longshot for 10mm.

Those velocities are typical higher end for a auto loader 10mm shooting 180 gr. bullets. I have read recently guys claiming 1500 fps, that ain't happening out of a 10mm auto loader without making the cases one time use only

I have only loaded AA #7 in my 10mms. I realized quickly that with an auto handgun, you have to keep the pressures down, then most of them have short barrels, so you are not going to get much velocity.

The powders that I have read are the preferred powders for a 10mm with 180 gr. bullets, are AA #7, AA #9, Long Shot, 800X, Blue Dot, N 105. A lot of people say AA #7 is the best, some say with 180 gr. or 200 gr. and longer barrels AA #9 is better, it's a slower burning powder, so it should be better with longer barres and heavier bullets.

A few people say 800X and Blue Dot produce the best velocities, and near perfect burn rates. Then N 105 and Long Shot are supposed to right near the top for velocities.

I am going to try out some other powders in the future, I plan to buy another 10mm soon. I plan on getting a carbine, then probably a 10mm carbine barrel for my Contender. With those, I will be able to hop up the 10mm as much as possible. From everything I have seen, 1100, to mid, to upper 1200 fps, is about what to expect, from 4" to 5" auto pistols.

Your gun being a hunter model, I would guess it has either a 5" or 6" barrel. So you might gain something by trying AA #9, but it won't be much.

Been reloading for 10mm a long time. My powders years ago for hot loads were 800x and Blue dot. 800x was difficult to meter, and I didn't want to dip every load with a scoop, so I settled on Blue dot. About 1295 fps. was what I got with it and 180 gr. bullets. I use Longshot now, it's accurate, easy to meter, and I am not after the last foot per second I can get.

I use blue dot or accurate #9.
