    Sig P226 jamming

Went out with my son to the lease to burn some ammo. The Sig 226 that my son has kept jamming-some mis-feeds, some stove pipes very disappointing and potentially dangerous in the case of an emergency. We tried different ammo with the same results.

I'll probably take it to the only gunsmith in town but any ideas as to what could be the problem?

I had a p229 doing this. It was a 357sig and a 40 cal. Change barrels. The mags were causing it.

Different model but I had a P320 in 45 cal and it had very similar issues… I was told that there were some issues with the initial run on the P320… supposedly sig would fix the issue but I haven’t sent it in to get worked on…

Stovepiping is normally not a magazine related issue. Stove pipes are either recoil spring, extractor, cleaning and lubrication, limp wrist or weak ammo.

Check the recoil spring. If it is the braided style, check the ends for fraying. Sig has had issues with this in the past and there are several revisions of the recoil spring.

Lubrication. How old is the gun, is it clean and properly lubed? Even if you think it’s clean, clean it some more. Don’t lube just the slide and frame rails. Lube the outside of the barrel.

Extractor problems will require a gunsmith or armor to diagnose. You can DIY it, but it take a few punches not usually found in the average tool box.

          Limp wrist is self-explanatory.

Ammo, shooting cheap reload or range ammo? Try some quality self-defense ammo to see if
          It shoots better

Limp wrist-thought initially about that but not the case. I'll try 9mm plus next time, just hate to shoot real expensive ammo but will have to. I bought it about 5 years ago but I haven't shot more than 1 box of ammo thru it. I'll give it a thorough cleaning as suggested and if it fails I guess I'll get in touch with Sig.
