Slugs thru smoothbore?

My son asked me that he wants to get a home defense shotgun and asked if he can shoot slugs thru that shotgun, I told him that 00 buckshot would work great for that even #4 shot but I'm not sure if you can shoot slugs thru that barrel.
Any help here is appreciated.

Sure can. Just get rifled slugs for a smooth bore. Shoot them all the time.

You can shoot any slug through that shotgun, but some will be more accurate than others.

Heres 3 shots out of my 870 Police smooth bore, ghost ring sights. Federal LE rifled slugs.

Any slug will work but why? I've killed plenty of deer with a non rifled slug. #4 thru 0 works on people very well.
