    Need good gunsmith

I've been trying to sell a Savage 10 with a threaded bull barrel because its too heavy for me. One of the responses told me he has the exact same rifle that he had the barrel cut down to 20" that helped with the weight.
It looks like that is the route I'm taking but we don't have a good gunsmith here in Laredo.
Any recommendations on who to take it to? I'd also like for them to thread the barrel as well.

what caliber and barrel length ?

I can run some quick numbers and tell you how much weight reduction.

my guess - you will only save 3/4 ~ 1 pound , rifle will definitely be more maneuverable

        It's a 24" barrel in .308

Send it to class 3 machine in Dallas. He’s cheap, good and fast. Usually don’t get all 3

ballpark savings, from 1/2 lbs. to 3/4 lbs weight reduction.

Thanks Blake....Well that's something I guess, I'll check to see what it weighs right now. Is 20" about as short as I can go without it losing too much velocity? Will accuracy be affected?

With a 308 I’ve seen guys chopping down to 18 even 16 inches. Accuracy at further distances will be affected.

Accuracy isn’t tied to barrel length, but velocity is. You can go all the way down to 16” if your heart desires, just won’t have as much speed. Maybe 20-30fps per inch you chop
