I learned lesson to never assume they did a good job

I bought a Remington 788 .308 this year and was having ejection problems so I took it to Montechema Firearms in boerne, they replace the base and rings to fix the problem.
Next problem was after Montechema Firearms worked on it , I couldn’t get it to shoot sub 1 1/2 moa , mainly worse
Thought it was scope under assumption because base and rings brand new
New scope arrived today and found the real problem bases and rings where only finger tightness no loktight majorly loose
It’s my bad to assume they properly mounted and tighten up to specs and not be a 1/2 arse job , I paid them so assumed rifle was good to go not so

That sucks. Guess it’s hard to take the extra 5 minutes to do it correctly. Some people just don’t take pride in their work.

I feel ya. I took one to a gunsmith in Beasley (Elam custom gunsmithing) a cpl years ago to have a scope switched out and put on my 300 win mag for an elk hunt. Shot fine at the range, had it dialed in at 200. Never dropped gun, travelled in a hard case everywhere and all the way to NM. Brother and I called in a 6x6 to 75 yards and missed him once standing there and 3 times trotting off. Couldn't figure out what happened, I don't miss like that. Hiked off the mountain to the ranger trying to figure it out the whole way. I wiggled my scope when I got back and what do you know, never torqued the rings and both had come loose where you could physically wobble the scope. I was beyond ****** and let everyone know that asks how much he sucks. Simple task and completely failed.

Best to get the right tools and do it yourself. You’d be surprised how long it can take between degreasing every screw and hole, mounting the bases with loctite, getting the rings lapped if needed, the scope reticle level, and everything torqued properly.

Hell I would have gladly paid it. I paid more. I agree though it is best to DIY but sometimes there is no time.

Glad you aren’t defending crap work because whether it’s gun work or vehicle work folks need to be honest as far as the work they are doing. As a tech., if you need x amount of time you need to inform the customer of what that will cost. if he decides he doesn’t want the extra cost, we’ll then the customer will at least know what he is getting…

I do mount my own optical systems on rifle, the possible Ejection claw was beyond my skills Level

Optics, reloading, other menial task are therapy for me
