    30 super carry new cartridge

Any of y'all nerd out on this new cartridge that federal released? Looks pretty interesting. Almost identical to 9mm with energy and penetration with hst bullets so so decently better than .380 but you get 2 extra rds in the mag.

Put them in a Ruger lcp Max or similar pocket rocket and I think you would have a helluva carry gun.

saw a box of ammo at academy the other day,,, ballistics on that box put it a lot closer to a 380 than a 9mm

Hoping they do come out with it in the LCP max.

I’m interested in it. I don’t think it’s going to overtake the market by any means, but it’s a neat idea. I haven’t personally seen a gun or ammo for it yet.

Interesting concept but my way of thinking is the added terminal performance from the 9mm makes up for not being able to hold two more rounds. I get the idea behind it but when it comes down to it I don't think you're losing anything in reality.

I could be wrong but this seems like a cartridge that probably won't go anywhere. Everyone and their dog already owns a .380 or 9mm and this one is just too close to being right in the middle.

Most gunfights in the real world have absolutely terrible hit rates like 25% or less. Having that extra couple rds could be what gets you that extra hit on target. That's why I carry a .380 and 9mm vs a .45.

I’m with you, much ado about nothing as far as I’m concerned. But then I carried a .40 for years before I finally succumbed to the 9mm and the extra capacity. I was wrong once before…..

I don’t see it going anywhere. Just not a big enough of a difference to make enough people switch over from 9 and .380 IMO. Only way I see it sticking around is if several other gun manufacturers start producing their pistols in it and pushing the round. I don’t think Federal and S&W’s marketing is good enough to make it successful.

The .380 and 9mm bracketing it do the same things it will in the real world. I'm guessing it'll be hot for a little while, then will fade into obscurity kinda like the 45 GAP and to some extent 357 Sig.

Interesting. More like a 380 magnum? I wonder how similar the cases are between the 380 and 30 Super.

The 9mm is the “.380 magnum”. The 30 Super is a smaller diameter bullet. I can’t imagine a new cartridge right now when ammo companies can’t keep up with what they already have. P**$ poor planning IMO, but an attempt to make a buck which is what we all do.

OK brother. That is how I've always thought of the .355 pair. After a little duck duck go, I now see what they did. I had a GOF moment. Smaller projectile, hence the name "30" ,......312x. (in my best Homer Simpson voice) Doh!!!

Sounds like the ".327 magnum" of the semi auto world.

Here's from an NRA article on the 30-

Despite this size reduction, the 30 Super Carry features a 100-grain projectile with a muzzle velocity of 1,250 f.p.s. This produces 347 foot-pounds of energy at the muzzle, far more than Federal's 99-grain .380 ACP HST load, which produces 223 foot-pounds at the muzzle. In fact, it's almost on par with a 124-grain 9 mm Luger HST load, which produces 364 foot-pounds of energy, according to Federal Premium's factory specs.

I can see it now, peeps roving the planet in a post apocalyptical world and stumble upon a cache of this ammo while holding a 9 with no 30 super carry pistols to be found- or visa-versa.
Keeping your ammo stored with like chambered guns so the left behind don't have to scrounge too much, it can be your last act of kindness......
