    35 whelen order?

I am placing my order on a 35 whelen, I guess my question is does the 35 have enough recoil to warrant a muzzle break? This model has the option for factory break or none. SS or blued
Not a huge fan of break because muzzle blast noise , yet don’t want another sledgehammer like a 45-70

What says anyone who has experience with a whelen or other mid bore ?
    TIA

If it was mine I'd put one on. Im 69yo and am recoil sensitive in my old age.

I have 3 35 Whelen’s one is Magnaported the recoil is not bad I would go with a good pad vs brake unless you are building a super light rifle or are recoil sensitive

If the 45-70 recoil bothers you definitely get a MB on the whelen

Good recoil pad. I love my 35W. I get 2850 with 200 grain bullets, no pressure signs. Absolute hammer without magnum recoil/muzzle blast.

I have 3 Whelens. Savage bolt that I rebarreled, and 2 CVA single shots. One CVA has a brake. It reduced the abuse a bunch, but it is noisy. They are all the hammer of Thor on game. Back off a little bit on power and load cast gas check bullets helps with recoil, and nothing you shoot will ever complain. I have molds from 200 to 280 grains.

It depends on weight and load. I have a REM 700 classic with a spotter barrel that with optics and sling weighs in under 9 pounds. It’s not bad with 200 grain loads, 225s will make me wince and hot 250s are punishing off the bench. It’s fine when in the field, but working up that hot load for a nilgai hunt hurt me.

7.5 lbs no scope, probably 8.? With , sounds like it’s stainless and muzzle break with 250 accubond loads

Get a good pad first then decide if you want a brake on it.

It's a thumper but you never feel it when you're shooting at game. Several rounds at the range is noticeable though. With that said, I'd pass on that loud *** break. Started out shooting Hornady superformance 200 grain but my rifle fell out of love with them. My buddy still shoots them and they are a great round. My gun prefers the Barnes TTSX in 180 grain

I have a 30-06 I had re-barreled and changed everything about it. Action trued, factory Remington laminated stock (LSS), added a limbsaver pad and had the gunsmith put in a mercury recoil reducer. Doesn't have any more recoil than the 30-06 180 gr loads now with factory 200's and 225's.....haven't shot any 250 gr loads yet but they will be more of a push than sharp recoil.

I think you may be thinking 35 Remington in a TC Contender super 14.
