    375 Raptor

I've never really been into wildcat calibers. The daya behind this caliber is intriguing. 300 BO but with more knockdown and the ability to go subsonic. Has anyone played with this yet?

That round is a lot more than a 300 blackout. Pretty sure the first Raptor, was the 45 Raptor, pretty hard hitting round. Then they necked that down to 375 and created the 375 Raptor. I recently found out both rounds are based off of the 308 Win. case, or can be made from 308 Win. cases. Most people build either the 375 or 45 Raptor in AR-10s or short action bolt actions.

I have read a post by a guy who claimed he had a AR-15 45 Raptor. 95% of the info posted by companies that sell 45 Raptor barrels, only talk about doing so for AR-10s. I think I did find one company that made a vague reference to selling 45 Raptor barrel for AR-15s.

Most of the info I have found, is for the 45 Raptor, but I have found a few companies that listed 375 barrels.

The 375 Raptor, is one of the calibers, I have been considering for one of my AR-10s. I want a stout 358, 375 or 458 caliber AR-10. I have found there is a 350-300 WSM, 375-300 WSM, 458-300 WSM, those are all rounds based off of necked up 300 WSM. Then there is a 458X2", which is a 458 Win. Mag. case that has been shortened to 2". Then there is the 450 Marlin, which is also a belted magnum. It's virtually identical to the 458X2", but has a different width belt. Then the other calibers I have been looking at are the 375 Raptor and the 45 Raptor. I was really interested in the 45 Raptor, till I found out it shoots .451 caliber pistol bullets. That's not a huge deal, but if I build a 45 caliber gun, I want it to have a .458 bore.

I can get a bolt that will work for the 300 WSM based rounds, or the 458X2" and the 450 Marlin. But I have read some people have had problems with bolts with that large of a bolt face. I would like to do a one or two rifles using the large magnum bolt face, but worried I may have problems with such a combo. So the thought of building one of the guns with a standard 308 bolt face, to make sure one has no problems. If I do so, it will likely be a 375 Raptor.

I would assume the 375 Raptor would be pretty close to a 358 Winchester, but larger bore. So it should be good for critters, such as bear black bear and elk, it should work for moose also.

I have a good bit of info on the 358-300 WSM, or 35 Sambar, that's a pretty impressive round, I would assume the other larger bore wildcats based off of the 300 WSM, would also quite impressive. I have done a lot of reading on the available big bore calibers for the AR-10s. Still trying to make a decision, I am pretty sure I am going to do one using a standard 308 bolt and one with a magnum bolt, and hope that one does not give me problems.

I have the 375 Raptor in both an AR 10 and in a TC encore pistol (16 1/5"). I love them both. The Pistol will be in Africa again this year taking anything I want including cape Buffalo and maybe a Hippo if I get a chance at one. The gentleman who came up with lives here in Houston.
