308 Win Reduced Recoil Load Data?

Does anyone have a recipe for a reduced recoil load in 308? Looking to load some up for the kids to hunt with in a lightweight rifle.

I've always been a big proponent of gun fit, make sure it fits and weight is your friend when trying to manage recoil

My reduced recoil load used a lighter bullet. Some use a 150 at lower velocities, I just went with a 125gr bullet at a moderate velocity. Worked well in my rifle and printed 3/4moa groups if I did my part. Obviously every gun is different, and as my disclaimer refer to Hodgdons data for 125gr Sierra Soft Points and work up for your rifle.

125gr Sierra Tipped Gameking(also great in 300blk), 41.5gr IMR3031, 2.70” COAL, CCI LR primer. Never shot over a chrono, but by the data I’d assume I’m in the 2750-2800fps range out of the 18” barrel. Very soft shooting.

Didn’t know about this. Never looked at pistol data for the 308 and the others. I will have to get my hands on some 4895 and give those a shot!

Here's the link to the Hodgdon information for reduced loads with H4895: https://hodgdon.com/wp-content/uploa...ifle-loads.pdf

Also, as has been mentioned, gun fit is very critical as well.

Thanks guys, gun fit shouldn't be a problem. The rifle is a Sig Cross, it is adjustable for LOP and comb height but being about 8 pounds loaded out I am concerned with recoil for the kiddos.

Could always slap a brake on it. Be sure they use plugs AND muffs if you go that route

I have it suppressed so that will help a bit.
